The time has come.....cant believe were the last 2 months have gone!!! It is our last day in Townsville today and our pack up has begun. We have had some awesome experiences and yet feel that we are leaving not having done too many touristy things as work has gotten in the way. However, there have been some fun times had, especially over a little wine and beer. One recollection was only a few nights back which l dont totally recall but have been later informed that the events were humerous. After two bottles of wine or more the night involved me straddling Marty which then involved me doing the crane type karate moves off 'Karate Kid' at Marty which then ended in me falling over backwards and hitting my head on the gutter and Marty then headed off to bed. Well you would think that would end my night, no not me!! I continued to guzzle my wine and then ended up on Amanda's lap talking and whatever when she must have got sick of me and let me fall off, consequently hitting my forehead on their steps of the cabin. Instantly there was a huge lump formed, which l iced. The rest is history and l awoke the next morning next to Meg not knowing how l got home or how Meg got home for that matter. The result was a spew and sore head, which proceeded to develop into a black eye. I couldnt believe it!!! Lol.... great night though!!
Yesterday l finshed my last day of work with eyue makeup on to try and hide my black eye!! I had my last two shifts in Emergency Department which was fantastic as this was one of my favorite areas to work, the others being EMU and Surg 3 (neuro surg ward). My day went quick as usual as it was a nice paced day with controlled koas. I said my goodbyes and some of the girls and dr's l got to know were very excited for our future travels and wished me well, whilst also telling me to come back here when we finished to work. It was really nice to feel apprecisated and get my mojo back for nursing, which had been lacking for the last few years at my old job.
That night after work we had decided to go out for dinner with the Woods clan to have a farewell send off for one another. We headed down the Strand as there was this Christmas festival thing on called 'the stable on the strand'. I had no idea what it was about but soon found out is was a big churchy Christmas thing. It did offer free camel rides for the kids, free carnival rides and interaction with farm animals, so the kids loved it. After a while whilst walking thru 'the stable' l said it was time to go as their was a bit of preching going on with the re-enactment of baby jesus and stuff, was feeling a little 'cult' like so we decided to make our way out for our 'last supper' together and ended up at Outback Jacks Steakhouse off Palmer St. Palmer St and Flinders St are the places to go for eating out in Townsville, great restaraunts and pubs, great mixture of dining experiences for all walks of life. We had a great meal with laughs and remanising about our past two months together. The kids all had a ball like usual. It was so great to have the great fortune, again, to meet the Woods who will be friends for life. Our time at Townsville wouldnt have been half as enjoyable without the laughs and experiences had with these amazing people. Am still quite humbled and shocked to find that we are making such good friends on this trip, who are out there doing the same thing. It helps meeting all these wonderful people, as it isnt as lonely and isolating and it also helps with missing our mates back in Vic. If we didnt have these people in our lives on this advennture l dont know how l would be coping being away from our support network and great friends. We will miss Amanda, Mark, Charlotte and Jake but are greatful that we will meet up with them again, either in Tassie or Alice Springs.... so not good-bye, but till we meet again..
Speaking about friends, we are very excited that we will be passing thru our old hometown in the middle of January on our way to Tassie for a few weeks. I hope everyone will be as excited as we are to be catching up and pray they havent forgotten us.
Tomorrow we will be setting of thru Charters Towers, hopefully camping somewhere in Hughenden. The next 10 days will be busy but great, seeing hopefully some amazing counrtyside of inland QLD. We will venturing thru Winton, Longreach, Emerald and Carnarvon Gorge and Roma before getting to Sunny Coast. We cant wait to be back on the road and if anyone has never been to Townsville then l say it is a must do holiday destination. Its an awesome town with great family facilties, we have actually put it on our list of places we could live, the very first one. The blogs might pick up a bit now seeing our travelling adventures are up and running again after cashing up.
