Well we finally made it out to Moreton Island after half a day wasting sitting in the car. We left Gold Coast at 9:30am thinking it would take a bit to find where we had to go but we had arrived at Port Brisbane by 10:30am with our ferry not scheduled to pick us up till 2:30pm!!! So we headed into Brisbane to get a few last minute things and to buy scrabble for Marty and l to play while at the island which all took around am hour. So we had lunch in a parking lot at a shopping plaza then headed out to Port Brisbane again as we were told to arrive an hour early prior to departure to check in and what not. We arrived St the wharf around 12:45pm and sat around for a while until they finally let us on to board at 2:20pm!!!! We were all so ready to get out of the car. We left the caravan at the MICAT port area which only ended up costing us $50 for the week and then boarded the MICAT ferry. Girls were pretty excited and couldn't believe we had to drive the car onto a boat!! Lol
We arrived at "The Wrecks" on Moreton island at 4pm and the view was amazing. As we were coming in to dock we floated past the old ship wrecks and got some awesome photos at the same time! We were all so excited to be here ad we had been looking forward to this little adventure. The island is completely sand and is limited to the amount of tourists they have at the one time. Anyhow, we all loaded back into the car and drove of the ferry onto the beach at high tide. Could totally tell Marty enjoyed this straight away.
Drove along the beach for a little while till we found our turn off to our vamp site at Ben-Ewa. It's about a 1 minute walk away from the beach and has toilets and cold shower sites (which we won't be using!! Have packed our water heater for warm showers). Boo eager to help with setting up the tent which was cute, whilst Meg sat and played in the dirt with the tent pegs! Only took an hour to set everything up which was good.
Saw our first sunset on the island (blog photo) and it was gorgeous. Also took a stroll along the beach were we spotted heaps of starfish swept up on shore, the girls were fascinated in this with Meg straight away touching them whilst Boo not too sure. Quite funny to watch their different ways.
Had an easy tea of chicken snitzel and salad sandwiches. Washed our feet in a bucket and the girls were all tucked up in their sleeping bags by 8pm. Marty and l were pretty knackered to and was nice to lie down in the tent and listen to the ocean..... I am a bot bummed in a way that we have reception pn our phones here on the island as would have been nice to leave all that for just a week, might have to make an effort to leave the phones in the car for extended periods?!?!?!
Totally psyched for the island and looking forward to exploring it over the next week....
