So we arrived at Byron Bay on Sunday the 24/7 and was overcome at how busy the town center was when we drove through. Marty and l hadnt decided where to stay so did a few drive by's past caravan parks and ended up staying at the Belongil Fields Caravan Park out the road. It was cheaper by $80 where we were considering but there wasnt much difference between them, so cheaper won at $170 for the weeks accommodation.
Its the cheapest so far and you can see why. There is no playground for the kids, the amentities are basic, with the toilets not even being cleaned daily (and probably not since we've been as evidence remains on the bowl lol hahaha). Anyway, it is peaceful and quiet, if you dont count the guy (who l'm sure is schizophrenic) in his tent that you hear talking to himself and yelling out occassionally. There are heaps of young, backpacker, hippy type campers here, not too busy so thats good. You wake up to hear the birds chirping and can hear the ocean at night, so overall, nice park but probably wouldnt handle it in the peak season with all the backpackers!!! Little exposure at a time l say, adjustment will become easier that way (lol).
Over the last few days have taken it easy and done not much. Have gone into town each day and gone to the beach. Have to say that am really impressed with the beaches here, would say best one yet, even better than Bondi beach. The waves arent so big and the sand is beautiful. If only it was hotter and we could take a swim, that would top it off. The girls love putting their feet in, not hassling us for a swim so thats good. Had a walk around the town, the shops are cool and if holidaying might just take a bit more notice, but since cant take alot around with us have decided not even to tempt myself with window shopping. Took a drive up to the lighthouse which has the most amazing views, will endevour to go back up there and take some pics, will blog this next time. It is totally awesome as the views are from the most easterly point of Australia.
Have had some funny incidents at the beach with Boo not knowing the force behind the waves!!! There not even big and she ends up on her bottom, wet as a shag!! Quite funny really, poor thing. She was so devasted this one time when she dropped her bucket whilst falling and lost it. There were tears until superdad came to the rescue and found it under the water!!! What a dad hey. Also Meg has finally adapted to the waves, initally she was still screaming at the waves and running away from them (got a few funny looks), but due to the waves being smaller and quieter, she loves the beach and hassles us to go daily!!!
Have had some down time thank god and the days are going slow. Have caught up on some of Boo's school and the girls have had the chance just to hang out, playing there sports of tennis and soccer, plus riding their bikes.
Its funny how a stereotype takes over in your head. When we first arrived here, everytime l smelt smoke in the air, l thought it was someone smoking a joint!!! They all smoke rollies here so took a while to adjust!!! Funny seeing all the hippy people around, doing nothing really but hanging by the beach and down the street.
All in all starting to relax and chill, must be Byron rubbing off!!!
