Day 4
I woke up feeling a little rusty from the night before. The whether is poor and it has been raining for most of the night.
We had already planned to visit Neuschwanstein Castle today so the weather would not be an issue given the tours are inside. We headed off early to beat the crowds and managed to get English speaking tours for both Castles. The castles are mind blowing filled with art and antiques that I'm sure John and Cathy would appreciate. Fortunately enough I was able to take a few pics before being told to politely stop by our 7ft german guide with dry sense of humour.
The hike to Neuschwanstein from the visitors centre was tough but worth it for the exercise and spectacular views. It was interesting that the castle was only lived in by King Ludwig for 175 days before his passing and has since been open to the public as a tourist attraction. I enjoyed the tours but it was my fifth tour in 3 days so I was starting to get over them.
We ate lunch at the Schloss Brauhaus in Schwangau. The weather had slightly improved so we sat at a table outside with view of the castle and the alps. We sampled the local beers over lunch and decided it was best to head back for an afternoon rest but the sun came out and we ended up getting another round, and another.
We brought some beer from a local market for around 70€ cents each (Beer is cheaper than water here and is sold everywhere) and had drinks on the terrace at our accommodation. As we drank and enjoyed a bit of banter Nathan was nicknamed the master by Ryan for bossing Myranda around and we're enjoying taking the piss when ever opportunity presented itself.
We had dinner at a beautiful little Italian restaurant. At first we could not get a table because they were so busy and we were sent away. We returned 20 mins later and were showed to a table. The food was to die for! I asked the waiter for a recommendation and he suggested a pasta dish with truffle, he said 'this dish speaks 7 languages in your mouth' I said that's six more than me so I better give it a go. It was hands down one of the best culinary experiences I have had, and a great way to end the day!
