Friday 5th February
We had to be at breakfast for 06:30 which a few people understandably struggled with. We went out in the jeeps and our first stop was the Red canyon. There are so many bugs on the island but the most annoying are these extremely large flies which land on you and pinch you if you don't swat them. Even when you swat them away they come back. Gaz kept telling us to let them land on us then squash them but I just couldn't it because it made me feel nauseous. Whilst we were at the red canyon one of the flies landed on Vickys back which she didn't notice. Then out of no where JJ just whacks her on the back to kill it and nearly knocked her over! Me and Adam were stood behind them and just looked at each other and burst out laughing. He was trying to be nice but she was so oblivious to it that it was more a shock than anything. We went to champagne pools where the sea comes over the rocks and creates a pool like area, which was really pretty. However it started drizzling when we were in the water so me Kirsty and Laura hid under a cave ledge and had a girly chat for a bit instead. We also went to Indian heads where we got told about the spiritual creation of the island by Gaz. Me and Kirsty were at the front and mid talk one of the flies landed on Kirsty, she started jumping around trying to dodge it then it came for me, so we are both at the front squealing and jumping about, and then Gaz tells me to stop jumping around like a twit and let it land on me. No Gaz, that's not happening, we are taking no chances haha. Kirsty thought it was hilarious she had snuck off so I was the one getting named and shamed. We laughed it off but I felt like when we were kids and she always got out of things for being the youngest! Our next stop was Eirly creek. We walked passed a poisonous spider and got down in to the water. Some people had boards to float along with but the rest of us just walked down the creek. I was trying to avoid getting my hair wet as the sun wasn't out and I didn't want to be cold. However, Gaz gathered us all in a group and the next thing I know he starts a water fight and I was absolutely drenched. Kirsty and Laura managed to miss the worst of it and were hysterical at me trying to escape it. Too late now. We all walked down the creek but there was so many bugs that us three girls were just keen to get back out. The cloudy weather wasn't encouraging us either, and the guys were splashing around. They then decided to play a game where they were running and jumping in to the creek on to the boards and trying to skim across the water. They weren't very good at it, but it entertained us. When we got back to resort everyone in our room decided to take a nap. We were laughing at JJ being one of the girls with nap time. After our roomie nap time we all got ready to go for our group dinner and had a few drinks of course. We then started a huge game of ring of fire with about 15-20 of us. It's a card game which you can make in to a drinking game, and each card represents something, so each person takes it in turns to pull a card. Laura pulled the Jack card, which means you get to create a rule. She chose to do something I did on my friend Aimee's hen do last year where every time you blow a whistle or in this instance she was putting her hand in the air, we all had to get on the floor in a soldier position and the last person has to drink. There were rules and forfeits all over the place and it was the best game of ring of fire I've ever played, we didn't stop laughing! It really brought us together as a group and we were definitely starting to feel like a little family. Once the game was over, Alice suggested we all go to the beach. The one thing we were told NOT to do by Gaz. He said someone always does it anyway though and if we were going to break this rule then to seriously not go alone. The dingos will approach anyone alone and the tide comes in fast at night, not to mention the snakes, sharks and jelly fish we were warned of. But of course, we all decided to go anyway. They assigned me as group leader and I was in charge of counting everyone (14 of us) who were going and making sure we all came back together. As soon as we left the gated area of the resort and stepped on to the beach in the pitch black, someone made a joke we were probably next to snake, so someone put a light on and by some strange coincidence there was a snake right in front of us slithering past. All the girls were screaming! We all ran passed it and down on to the beach, we were singing songs and dancing around then decided to sit in a circle on the sand and tell ghost stories. It was really funny and surreal, sat doing this on the largest sand island in the world with a group of people we had not long met yet had a great bond with and I felt a million miles away from the real world. I noticed two of the girls running back (apparently they needed the toilet) so I rounded up the others and we all went back to the resort bar to meet the rest of the group. We were all dancing and singing and when midnight struck it was Adam and Sara's birthdays. As Sara turned 30 a few people gathered round and gave her her first ever birthday bumps, throwing her in the air. Before the night ended, we all got in a circle and Kirsty asked them to play New York, New York and we were all singing and kicking our legs in the air. It really was an amazing day and night and I didn't want it all to end.
