Things I've learnt on holiday: 1. Do not miss your plane! Cause that really suck. 2. It takes 3 months to make a 1 x 1 square meter carpet. 3. Turkish men dont work: they just drink tea and play cards. 4. Pebble beaches aint cool. Its painful to walk on and burns the s*** outta your feet. 5. When your boat breaks down in the roughest part of the ocean.... some people will get sick. 6. Turkish people are extremely friendly! Even the cats love you! 7. No, it is luckily only a myth that you will pee in your pants when you go paragliding. 8. When getting a mud-bath, dont wear your brand-new R600 bikini. 9. Dont walk down stairs in the boat when in rough seas. You will get bruises.
Ok, so as you've gathered, yes, we missed our plane. So instead of arriving before sunrise on the Saturday morning, we arrived after sunrise. We landed in Dalaman, but stayed in Fethiye. Fethiye is quite nice (that is if you can see through all the sweat dripping in your eyes - it was an average of 37 degrees every single day!!). The first day we did some sight-seeing in the market - trying to fight off all the guys trying to sell us crap. They just dont take no for an answer!! Marcos and i also went for a Turkish bath. For those of you that dont know: you get to sweat even more in a very hot room, wearing only your costume and towel. Then this big, old, hairy, sweaty, Turkish dude comes in - wearing only a towel. He will then make you lie across this marble bench and will proceed to soap you. While i was in the middle of my soaping-with-mr-hairy session, a camera crew walked in and starts filming me!! How embarrassing! Then after the whole soaping thing he rinses you and wraps you in towels (so you look like an Iraqi crossed with a newborn baby) and then the TV-crew decided to interview us! (And they even had an interpreter!) Ok, so that was the highlight of day 1.
On the Sunday we went.... *drum roll*... PARAGLIDING! How incredibly amazing was that!?!?! M had the camera when he jumped, so you can see me in the very far distance on the pics.... will forward some to you. Whenever you have the opportunity: go for it! I swear i could take it up as a sport! :-)) We also went on a Jeep Safari. Now people, when in South Africa, "Safari" means, putting on your kaki clothes, getting your binoculars and playing "who can spot the lion first", but in Turkey, "Safari" means playing water-war games with the other Jeeps, getting SOAKED, while going sightseeing. TONS of fun! Also had a serious mud bath... FAB!!! Walked in the gorge.... my legs turned blue from the cold water. No really! The water was f-f-f-reeeeezzing!!! Had some fabulous dinners..... i'm trying now to remember the description on one of the menus cause i'm sure Heidi, Michelle and Mareli would appreciate it, but now i cant remember... it was something like " Lamb with onion and aubergine puree" mmmm.... food was DE-LI-CIOUS! Even the food on the boat were good! We had 2 Turkish guys, El Capitan and Mr-that-doesn't-speak-english on board. They basically did all the cooking. The boat cruise was also stacks of fun. Was just awesome doing absolutely NOTHING for 4 days and when you're stuck on a boat in the middle of the ocean, you just HAVE to lie in the sun, or soak in the sea.... tch-tch-tch, life was just so haaard! We did quite a few "pit-stops", saw St. Nicholas Island (aka Santa Clause Island), Simena (Castle Island), Kalkan, Kas, Kekova, Butterfly Island, i cant remember all the names. M and I loved Kalkan, it was just such a classic little dorpie with the most beautiful cobble streets and shops, i can actually live there forever! We were quite disappointed tho because we only stayed there for a couple of hours. The boat trip ended in Olympos where we stayed in Tree houses. Unfortunately they weren't like proper tree-houses, but they had aircon and that was all that counted!!! (by now in the holiday i have lost 20 kgs with all the sweating!!) I also didn't get a tan, cause it was so hot that i was covered in 30 sunblock the whole time. I guess it was worth it, cause its not-so-hot here in London, so nobody would've seen my tan anyway! We then had to mission back to Fethiye on the Sunday, cause we had to be back in Dalaman (Airport) by Monday afternoon. So on the way to Fethiye, we realised that the bus stopped at Kalkan - our favourite place - so we decided to stay there for the night and mission in the morning to get back to Dalaman. We stayed in quite a nice hotel with such a picture-perfect view and swimming pool!! (See attached photo). We went for a nice dinner and ended up at a Turkish restaurant with live music, smoking some Nargile (aka Shisha, aka Hubbly-bubbly, and no mom, its not drugs! Its flavoured tobacco...), drinking wine, and playing Tavla. Was one of my best nights of the holiday! The restaurant is a typical Eastern kinda set-up, sitting on the floor on big pillows, really fab! Unfortunately our holiday had to come to an end and i had to go back to work today.
Miss you all like mad! I'm sure i've left out a few bits and pieces, but i have to go as Marcos is waiting for me cause we have to quickly go to the shops as we have no food in the house. He only got here now from work - its after 7 already. (useless info). Will send a mail soon!!Love you all LOTS!XXXXX
