Today we set our alarms for 7am so that we could get to the Petronus Towers in time to get tickets for the trip up to the skybridge. We re-set it for half 7 as we couldn't face getting up, and eventually dragged ourselves out of bed for breakfast.
We got the LRT to KLCC and headed over to the towers, only to find that they weren't free as we thought - there was a 50RM charge! After a few minutes debating, we decided against going up as it would eat up half of our budget for the day! Instead, we got back on the train and headed towards the museum area of the city. The nearest stop on the train was quite far away so we walked for what seemed like hours in the scorching midday sun (I had to stop for an ice cream on the way!), past the National Mosque, before we eventually made it to the Islamic Arts Museum (rated number 1 attraction on tripadvisor!). We had a good look around at lots of Islamic art, sculptures and clothes, as well as the huge ornate domes in the ceiling all over the museum. KL is an exhausting city and we were both pretty tired by the time we left, so we headed up the road in search of some lunch, air-con and a rest! We found it at the Hornbill Café, outside the KL Bird Park, where we enjoyed some good Malaysian food and…pop with ice-cream - a random but welcome find!
Feeling refreshed, we continued on via a taxi ride to the National Musuem, which was more interesting (and cheaper!) than our first stop! It was arranged in 4 galleries, charting Malaysian history from prehistoric times up to the present day. We found out about how the country was colonised by the Portuguese and the British and how they eventually gained their independence in 1957. Their current aim, under a policy called '1 Malaysia' is to become a developed country by 2020 - good luck to them!
We headed back to the hostel in the pouring rain and discovered that flip-flops aren't the best footwear for the tiled street! We dashed back out later for a Burger King and spent the rest of the night relaxing in our room. A tiring day but worth it!
