My never ending journey begins again, and what a journey it's going to be! My last few days in Melbourne consisted of meeting with friends and last bit of shopping and organising my bag. Melbourne has been cold recently which hopefully has helped me mentally prepare myself for my next destination, New Zealand.
Departed for New Zealand on Thursday night which was perfect as it gave me all morning on Thursday to pack my small bag with all my never ending belongings, it was not fun but I managed it. On the flight, we sat next to the only screaming child on the plane. Truthfully, I felt like shoving my fist down it's throat. When we landed and got to New Zealand customs the Police dog sat next to my bag and the handler asked if I have any fruit, erm no!?...Phew! When I got to the taxi bays at the airport, it was baltic. I was definitely apprehensive on camping in a camper-van that we had previously booked for 2 weeks. I called our hostel for the shuttle car to come and pick us up which was great even though it was only a 5 minute drive away. The hostel was called 'Juicy Hostel' and it very plush. We had our own pods to sleep in, great night sleep. First mistake of the trip happened the next morning when we checked out of the hostel and we waited for the shuttle car to take us to their depot called 'Juicy Campers' so we could collect our camper-van. We arrived and queued for 30 minutes or so to be told that we don't have a reservation!! Read the paper work and we had a reservation with a camper-van company called 'Travellers Auto-barn' which was miles away. Thankfully Juicy Campers asked the shuttle car to drop us off. Bear in mind that we hadn't eaten due to our mistake and it was 13:00 by the time we eat. Just to give you the heads up, all our bookings for New Zealand and east coast of Australia was all done through an agency where our university friend worked, so we got a good discount. So we don't know at the top of our heads what were doing each day or who we have a camper with.
Campervan is great, perfect little nimble thing. Nearly brand new van and has a microwave, fridge, dunny, sink and running water. Also a table, bed and all equipment needed. Brilliant to handle and very convenient for what we needed. Once we got the van we did a food shop and set off to Lake Tekapo as we knew we had spare days to do Christchurch at the end of our trip. The roads here are bliss, no traffic, go as fast as you like and you rarely have to take over someone.
