So much to tell you!!!
Ok so a brief summary of what we have been doing over the past week since we last spoke. One of our friends had a birthday here so we all went out to helilounge which is a bar on the helipad on top of a skyscraper!!! Unbelievable...we got there just before sunset and watched the city plunged into the darkness before lighting up which was just as spectacular as the sunset. As if it was scary enough having no fence or wall etc and just a yellow line with a man and a whistle to stop you from going to close to the edge, there was then a KL classic electric storm with huge flashes of sheet lightening but everyone stayed and just carried on chatting and drinking. It really was amazing. We then went down into Changkat which is like going to town and got some great food and had a fab night with new friends.
The next night we felt as though we had been out so much that we decided to give ourselves a break and grab some cheap food at the mall (that's what you do apparently) and have a night in which was actually really nice and necessary!
Friday night, after school and rushing round finalising our new home (I'll write another post about that soon), the school took us to Kuala Selangor to see and feed street monkeys which was an experience. Those of you who have ever met me know that I am not the best with animals, and these animals were mental and greedy so I stuck to a bit more of the seeing and a bit less of the feeding, and as advised by our rabies nurse, we did not 'let a monkey lick an open wound'(?!)
From the monkeys, we were taken to an AMAZING seafood restaurant which is not my favourite but it reallt was fantastic. Beautiful setting along a riverside, the food was brought out to us continuously. Big crabs with hammers to eat them with, prawns, chicken, fish, sweet bread, rice and the centrepiece was a massive fish boiling away in broth. It was so yum, once again drinks were flowing and I even managed to break into and try some crab.
From the seafood restaurant back onto the coach now darkness had fallen to little row boats on a dark river to see fireflies which were buzzing around in the bushes. It was really good but scary too as I am positive I saw something large swimming towards us in the water. Jono saw it too and turned to me to see if I'd seen it while we were on the boat but is now denying that ever happened, saying I'm a big chicken, but heeeee kneeeew!
Saturday we lazed around the pool with some friends and enjoyed a well earned Big Mac Meal for our troubles before heading out on the KLIAirport Express train to Selangor International Go Kart Circuit (Formula 1 circuit) to go to Good Vibes Music Festival which was HILARIOUS!
There were a few stages set up and different things to do like photobooths and silent discos etc but a storm passed through and blew the mainstage to bits. Everybody gathered inside this...well, I'd say stage but it was more like a scaffold tower with a plastic sheet roof to shelter a bit and the DJ's quickly put together a playlist of such classic hits as YMCA, Rocking Around the Clock, Greased Lightening...the list goes on. Honestly, it was so weird and funny!
The storm passed but everything was now running late so we caught Banks, Empire of the Sun (crazy, youtube them if you've not seen already) and then Ellie Goulding :). Being a Muslim country, there were designated drinking areas so you could only buy drinks in them and had to stay in there before rejoining the rest of the audience when you had finished. It was a bit different from back home to say the least, good though. Home late and we used Sunday to go to IKEA and pick up some things for the flat and met up with Zoe and Dan who I went to school with as they were passing through which was lovely.
And so here we are today. What a great day. Today we have finally moved into our apartment. Infact I am sat on a window sofa at the top of the tower looking out across the city from 35 stories up. There are 4 blocks, each with something amazing at the top of it. We will have to take photos to show you and I'll do a separate blog about it but honestly, it takes your breath away! We want you all to be able to see it, you would love it and lots of our friends live here too so it's a great safe and social complex. I best go now as I've chattered on, but thanks for keeping up to date with us, we love you and miss you but where we are and the people we are with are brilliant lots of love and noodley kisses..
