Sunday, 8th of November:
We arrived at the main Rodivario (bus terminal) at 11am after 16 hours from Foz de Iguacu.
We left the terminal and turned right onto the street and walked about 2 minutes up the road to the local TTU bus terminal. Here, we boarded a bus after about 10 minutes for Lagao de Conecao.
This took about 25 minutes and we then transferred for our final bus to Barra Da Lagoa and made it to our hostel at about 1pm.
The hostel called Barra Beach Ocean Club was a short walk from the bus terminal up a secluded pathway overlooking what feels almost like its own private beach and cove. The hostel was awarded no.2 hostel in Latin America in the Latin America 2014 awards.
I stayed in a 10 bed dorm which was 40 real or €10 a night. The dorm room was pretty big though with plenty of rooms for bags and sturdy personal lockers. Each bed has its own lamp and socket which is always a big thumbs up for me! There is a free breakfast and free towels, but also free surfboard, bodyboard, wetsuit and beach games (volley ball, football, bats, etc) to borrow.
The hostel has a bar that also does amazing dinners and some pretty good lunches for good value.
What makes the hostel though is the staff - very friendly and welcoming! This rubs off on the guests who form a great atmosphere in the hostel.
I stayed here for 4 nights which mainly consisted of beach time and surfing. I missed out on a cool moped tour as they didn't want to bring me with no previous motorbike experience.
I hung around with Larry, Tom (kiwi who played for London Welsh and is a great singer) and his girlfriend Naomi from Wales, May from Laois, Ovi, Jeff, Michael, Andrew and Nick from England and Florian and Toni from Germany. All great people and I was sorry to leave.
Thursday, 12th of November:
Myself, Larry and the five English lads shared taxis to the airport which made things easy. The other option was getting a couple of buses which would take 2 hours. The taxi took 45 minutes and cost 75 real or 20 each (€5) when split.
We got the taxi at 9am and arrived at just before 10am. The airport is nice and pretty modern but is small and there are no large queues at check-in or security.
I was flying with Gol airlines at 11.26 and they were a very good and efficient airline serving some small snacks on board.
I arrived in São Paulo on schedule at 12.50.
