Karratha
Sunny, 30 degrees.
This morning we left about 10 or so with Ben for a drive to Burrup peninsula and Deep Gorge. Went for a walk in the gorge looking for ancient aboriginal rock carvings. Then we drove to Dampier. First we stopped at the Red Dog statue. Then had a look at the harbour there. Very pretty with quite a few boats.
Then onto the Woodside gas plant where we had a look at all the information about how the gas is extracted from the platforms out at sea. Very informative.
We then dropped Ben at work and drove to Point Samson, a nice little beach to the north. We had a lovely lunch at the tavern there, fish and chips, although Lauri's was a whole emporer fish which was delicious. Overlooking the water.
After lunch we drove back to Cossack, a now deserted town, where there are still a lot of lovely old buildings standing. The town was originally a pearling town, but later the pearling industry moved up to Broome so eventually everyone left the town.
We drove back to Karratha stopping at the lookout for a view of the town. Then to the airport to visit Ben at work. It was fascinating to learn about his work and watch him in action. There is a lot involved obviously, and he is always very professional with everything he does.
