Today was a sad day... Our final morning with Kratos. We woke early and lazily checked mail and read the news before having a cup of flower tea on the veranda with Kratos. His bus was at one so we decided to chill out with him this morning and enjoy a final brunch together. We headed out after everyone was showered and he was packed up and checked out, arriving at our favourite little place across the bridge just after ten. We ordered some food... Me and Steven rice soup and Kratos fried rice with eggs and ate them slowly enjoying some yarns. Kratos was heading to Hanoi and had quite a journey a head of him, he was boarding the bus at 1pm and wouldn't arrive at his destination till 8pm tomorrow night... Not envious at all.
We hung out till about 12.30 when the time came to head to the bus office... We solemnly walked with him before exchanging hugs and promises to meet up soon, we were going to miss that guy. After he left we went for a walk to explore parts of the town we were yet to see before heading back to the hotel for a break from the blazing sun. We caught up with emails and blogs before heading out later for a bite to eat, we thought we would try somewhere new so headed further down the front to see what we could find. Soon enough we spotted a little restaurant next to the monkey bar that served cheap food and cold beer, it seemed popular so we headed in and sat at a table. It had been so long since I had sat at a table I almost forgot how to do it. We ordered a couple of noodle soups and a beer and took in our surroundings, it was a small place with a few platforms surrounding a tv showing family guy and a couple of tables. On the wall near the kitchen were hundred of scribbles from satisfied customers mainly raving about the toxic water (cocktail perhaps?). The waiter was very friendly and very lively and it didn't take long to find out what toxic water was. The water wandered over with three shot glasses and an old bottle of Smirnoff that clearly no longer contained anything near to it. The bottle had blacked permanent marker scrawled over it showing a skull and crossbones and the words 'toxic water'... I could see what was coming. He poured three large shots and despite the fact neither of us wanted to we grinned and downed the shot not wanting to offend. Now I am not a huge fan of shots at the best of times as they taste vile and get me drunk far to fast but this stuff takes that dislike to a whole new level... Its disgusting! Like petrol or something. He seemed happy enough though and wandered off to find his next victims, don't know how he was still standing.
Soon enough our food arrived and we tucked in desperately trying to help our taste buds in forgetting that vile spirit while sipping our beers. After we had finished we chilled out for a while before taking a slow walk home stopping for banana, peanut butter and Nutella pancakes on the way.... Yummy.
