Sunday saw the Girls heading once again to the seafront under clear blue skies and in rising temperatures. There was plenty of chillin' out over late morning and early afternoon, before it was time to eat at The Surfside Bar. All the dishes had a football theme - I had a Stevie G pizza - but hey ho - it was nice anyway.
When the Girls got back to The Hibernia there was good and bad news, especially for Jet. We were scheduled to attend Sheffield United's evening training session at the national Ta Qali ground. However, the morning session had been so tough for the Blades boys that the evening work out had been cancelled. However, there was an invitation for the Girls to come and meet the Sheffield Lads at the very plush Fortina Spa Hotel.
On arrival, we were met by managing director, Dave McCarthy and the Blades publicity team. The Girls were interviewed for Blades TV, wearing the Blades Malta Tour T- shirts that they had been presented with.
Then it was the turn of the players to come down and meet the Girls. Imagine Juliet's excitement!! - although, to be fair, all the Girls were thoroughly enjoying the experience. The Girls were able to mingle with the whole first team squad as well as Danny, the manager. The players were courteous and patiently signed the Girls shirts. There were plenty of photo opportunities, especailly for Jet, who, clutching her signed ball, met Harry MacGuire, her personal favourite. I know this ball will not find it's way onto ebay! Jet was asked,"Will your sister, Antonia, be jealous?" and she replied "I do hope so!". We wished the players good luck in their friendly games over here and thanked them for their hospitality.
A great photo and story has already been put on The Sheffield United website. Many thanks to Dave McCarthy in particular for setting this up. Dave told us we should try and get onto the big screen set up long the waterfront in our Blades T- shirts.
A few minutes later, there was another exciting experience for The Girls. We spotted the big screen and quite bit of activity around it and Gill was put up to see if we could get the Girls on it. We didn't know that it was being used by the national Malta TV channel for a live broadcast. We told them our story and 20 minutes later the Girls were being interviewed live on TV on a lifestyles programme and shown on the big screen - by Ian - a local celebrity. Ian won Maltese Big Brother 2 years ago and his photo appeared in the bus kiosk advertising a Maltese mobile. Score!
The Wigton celebrities then wended there way back to The Hibernia, for a quick sprucing up and then a couple of hours at the seafront. In the meantime, "Big Pete" from Huddersfield (and vet of last year's "One Nation Cup" in Bremen) had arrived, with Caroline, Alice and twin Oliver. Good news for Howard and Gill with someone of their own age arriving, and good news for the girls also.
Quite a day! Time for Jet to dream of her meeting with Harry and the gang!
