My birthday - what a great location for me to celebrate my birthday. I woke early and my sister rang from Australia. It was nice to speak to a voice from home. Then Sonia and Mili sang happy birthday to me when I went to the villetta. It was a cool morning with quite a bit of rain but it cleared around late morning. We had watched it come up the valley - it arrived in the form of a huge cloud and swept past the villetta and up around the village and over the mountain behind bringing cool air and rain with it. I was concerned about it being a wet drive but it stopped before we left for lunch.
We went to a seaside town named Policastro for lunch, to a very nice restaurant called L'Uorto. It is quite a large and busy restaurant very close to the harbour. The menu is quite extensive and features mainly seafood - Sonia and I both started with a seafood antipasto plate and it was delicious with a variety of hot and cold fish. There was salmon, prawns, calamari, octopus and more. Mili had a pork steak and a plate of chips. Sonia followed with spinach and mozzarella ravioli in a tomato sauce. I had Fritto Misto which is all different kinds of seafood cooked in the lightest batter ever. There was once again all manner of fish, shellfish and octopus, far too much but incredibly delicious. We followed with a cooling ice confection. I had lemon sorbet and the others had vanilla ice cream. We drove back to the villetta feeling very full.
Several visitors arrived to see Sonia which was really nice. I did not want any dinner after the big lunch so turned in early and watched Midnight in Paris and half of Sleepless in Seattle. A lovely birthday for sure and one to remember.
