Today we went on a day trip to the northern part of Senegal to a 'safari' park. It felt more like a zoo however because there were no hunting carnivors only herbivores. They had a rhino though that we got to see very close up and we did manage to see a new animal a giant eland which co pared to other elands was giant so it really did live up to its name.
In Banjul the capital of Gambia we had to get across the ferry both s which I took forever as they seem to go less than two miles an hour and don't leave till they are absolutely full. This countries would fare much better if that actually invested in a bridge once in a while. We also had a man shouting at us in Arabic and it was obvious why because most tourists don't particularly care if a country is Muslim or not and just wear whatever they want. And they wonder why westerners are given a bad name!
On the way back to Gambia we stopped at a local village that seemed very poor. And people handed out sweets and pens probably without thinking that two tours probably come here every week. We heard round africa last year that kids who live in these types of villages have about 50 pens and tons of sweets rather than actual useful things for a community like food and textbooks. Sigh.
