Without sounding ungrateful, we didn't particularly like Nha Trang and in hindsight wish we had gone to Mui Ne or Delat instead. Unless a mini Russia by sea in Vietnam, with no Asian culture sounds appealing to you, if you're going to travel the other side of the world I wouldn't put Nha Trang on your itinerary. I mean we did enjoy our time there but this was down to the people we met, our boat trip and staying in the most cute and friendliest hostel in Vietnam. But in comparison to the rest of this beautiful country, Nha Trang isn't a must see. Some would blame the direct flight path from Russia. But that would be controversial and they don't even have much in common! What even is communism?
Anyway back to our stay at I Home. So this extremely switched on the 23-year-old Vietnamese guy called Andy opened this hostels six months ago and it is everything you could want from a hostel and makes you feel so at home. The staff know you by name and plan your day for you, you can use the kitchen or eat on the rooftop balcony and the beds were relatively soft Vietnam (80% solid). When we first got there we were four hours early for check-in yet they let us chill in the rooftop area and have the best banana pancakes which would have every morning whilst staying there.
Somehow I got roped into teaching an English lesson to 2 of the staff members whilst Frank contently caught up with her sleep from the night bus. This was pretty rewarding though, after a very patient two hours I've managed to teach them 45 vowel sounds from their English textbook. It was also very funny when after 10 minutes of saying and spelling out the word saw, the Vietnamese guy kept calling out the word shoe. He was never going to get it so after his hundredth "shoe" I congratulated him and moved on to the word show! Also an added bonus I got a free iced coffee for my teaching services.
Once we were all checked in we headed down to the beach for the afternoon. We were having a lovely chilled time, being the odd ones out between Russians at their beachside resorts on one side and the other all the locals. Without any notice of bad luck of weather conditions when getting to the beach continued as some angry black clouds flew our way. (Although as I write this I'm sat in a beautiful secluded beach in Hoi An with miles of blue skies and really hope I haven't just tempted fate!) We literally ran back to our hostel before the monsoon arrived. Not a lot to report for the rest of the day but we did book our "four island" tour for the next day which we were pretty excited for. Weather permitting.
