Hey all! First of all ITS MY BIRTHDAY!!! (From Beth)
Today was a very early start of 5am!! However it was definetly worth when we arrived at the Taj Mahal! In true british style it was 'bouncing down!' So we got our brollies and headed to the Taj Mahal. We had a short queue as it was very quiet due to the weather. We headed into the Taj Mahal through the East gate and as we approached the Taj it was spectacular. The gardens surrounding the Taj Mahal were beautiful and really set the scene.
The Taj Mahal was absolutley beautiful and breath taking, Our lovely guide Shiraz told us that it cost lots and lots of pennies to build! And took 22 years to build. The structure was made of marble with inserts of semi precious stones. Around the door way of each entrance there were inscriptions. From the Qu'ran. Our new accessory today was shoe covers which we had to wear inside of the Taj. I can honestly say that we looked fabulous! We got lots of pictures with it the back ground. Including Ellen picking up the Taj and Michelle pushing the building. It really is hard to describe how amazing the building is. We all had the opportunity to sit on Princess Diana's bench. We had a group photograph and individual pictures too. Sharaz our tour guide joined us for a group photograph.
After our early start we got back to the hotel for 8am, packed and went for breakfast. We then travelled back to Delhi where everyone caught up on there sleep and spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool!
For dinner we all dressed in our sari and punjabs for our last night in india. Beth, Jess, Rowan and Ellen did a really good job at tying their sari's but an indian lady, who worked in the hotel offered to help the girls dress correctly. We went for dinner, the hotel then brought Beth and Rowan a birthday cake with a sparkler in. We gave Beth and Rowan and Dawn a little present for their birthdays. Michelle then said a HUGE thank you on behalf of the team to Sarah for organising, running and delivering an amazng trip which is a once in a life time opportunity.
We then had our India Prize ceremony and prizes went to the following members of the group:
