Thanks to all those who came along to see us off this morning. Great to have such support.
My mother gave us three blocks of Energy Cake that she'd baked. Such heavy blocks of cake I'd not encountered before. Like 3 breeze blocks wrapped in tin foil. Unfortunately, the extra energy expended in carrying on the bikes must outweigh (literally) the energy gained by eating them.
A good number cycled along with us: Gazza almost as far as Avoncliff.
Some turned up en route in Bath.
The weather was good. No rain. The towpath along the canal to Devizes was very picturesque and tranquil.
I'm not sure how we clocked up 83 miles but I think it had something to do with our losing our way in the quiet lanes of W Berkshire.
Arrived at Newbury around 6:15 and, after a quick wash and brush up, went for a nice curry with my daughter Lily, who lives here, and Will. We will stay with them tonight.
Nothing too exciting to report.
Thanks to the proprietor of the Lock Inn Café, Bradford On Avon, where we stopped for a bite of lunch, but didn't due to the long queues in both the kitchen and the loos. When he saw that we weren't stopping, he shot off and brought us a couple of cans of Red Bull on the house.
A nice couple we overtook along the tow path into Newbury asked about our flag and about what we were doing. When we told them they asked for the link so that they could make a donation to Paul's Place. Thanks!
Morning. A 'reasonable' night's sleep was achieved on the floor of Will's lounge - care of a couple of 1cm thick 'Vango, Trek Standard' blow-up mats and some sleeping bags. Our night was
disturbed at 2am by a group of drunken Scousers singing/shouting 'You'll Never Walk Alone' outside of Will's flat. They kept starting other songs but didn't seem to know the words. Idiots.
London next...
