had nice breakfast in Williams, then drove to the grand canyon! we first went to an imax visitor centre and watched a movie about the people who used to live and first explored the canyon and we got free gift packs, then we drove a bit further down and walked out of a car park down a few small paths until suddenly we saw the canyon - it was so huge and spectacular it was massive and difficult to comprehend the size of it! it was quite busy and very hot so we didn't stop and stare for too long but we got a few photos which definitely don't do it justice! and carried on to a few more viewpoints. Andrew started crying cause dad got quite close to the edge and he was quite scared. we drove a way further to the canyon tower and me and das got out for a look - this was also spectacular! after the grand canyon we went to mc Donalds in kayenta for lunch. it was a strange town in the middle of a dessert with similar landscape to monument valley. we continued on to monument valley and at first I was a little dissapointed because it didn't look as spectacular as I was expecting but it was still amazing to see the rock sculptures - then as we drove down to the visitor centre it suddenly looked exactly how I was expecting and much more impressive- the rocks were a gorgeous red colour and it was 4pm so it was much cooler than earlier (but still very warm!) just more bearable than the canyon so we were able to stay outside and soak up the view a little longer - it was much quieter than the canyon too which was nice. on the way to monument valley we saw lots of little Indian stores and villages by the side of the road - it is incredible that they live like that! we then continued on to page which looked quite industrial as we arrived - with a big coal power station and we asked a few hotels for prices and ended up at the American value chain (I can't remember the name) me and dad went out to get a take away pizza hut and some things from the local gas station for the next part of the journey! we watched some of the olympic highlights and saw Jessica Ennis win gold - brought a tear to my eye seeing her with the national anthem playing in the ceremony!
