Bastille Market Day Sunday We decided to check out a Paris market & the Bastille market was the closest. This market sells everything from kitchenware, clothing, toys, fabrics, leather goods but I was interested in the produce and was not disappointed by the range & quality of fruit, vegetables, herbs, oils, spices, fish, meats, fresh & cured, all manner of cheeses, fresh pasta, cakes as well as freshly cooked meals. We couldn't resist the crepes for lunch & sat in the square in the middle of the hustle & bustle to enjoy them. The guy making the crepes was a marvel. He managed to produce the most delicious results with 4 machines on the go, as well as taking orders, payment & serving customers who only wanted drinks. Any chef would be hard pressed to match him. We were amazed at the price of the fruit & vegetables particularly. Nearly every variety from around 1 euro a kilo, but interestingly some stalls were more expensive but still popular - maybe the organic producers. I love raspberries so was delighted with my bargain of 2 punets of raspberries for 2 euros as well as peaches & nectarines for 1 euro a kilo. They were delicious for afternoon tea. We made our way back along the Seine amused at seeing people in their bathers sunbaking on the stone pathways at the rivers edge.
