Still smiling!
Arrived in Dubrovnik today after a 2 and half hr taxi ride because only one bus per day - at 7.30 am!!
Moved from Belgrade to small village in the mountains for one night. Had a bit of an adventure getting from train - an hour late - to the hotel which was our only one not booked. Thanks to a very nice man whom we tagged along behind, we found the hotel after 30 mins walk from station, through uneven pavements thinck in mud and water. Pitch black too! No idea where the man was going, but he led us safely. Hotel so welcoming. Little village really, and it was about 10 degrees when we arrived, 14 next morning.
Went by 2 buses to The Hotel in Montenegro, out one spot of luxury. And what luxury too. The biggest bed we've ever slept in, gorgeous views over the sea and sun, so much warmer than up in the mountains. Really spectacular scenery in Montenegro and the southern part of Serbia. Hard to remember the flatness of Poland and Hungary.
Iain and Anna were holidaying about 4 miles from us, so they joined us for dinner both nights and we met them at their village for lunch too. We were disappointed that it was buffet in the hotel, but it was a buffet to end all buffets, and totally different the second night. Wow!! Reminded M of Turkey, including Russians, legs and all (He's dictating) Waiter told us most guests are Russian. We were his first Scots that whole season.
Glad to know our garden is producing. Enjoy! But it can't be anything like the fruit and veg we're seeing here.
Sorry to hear Ron lost his golf, best wishes to Gary.
Dubrovnik has been reached, only 37 years of waiting for Malcolm, who was trying to get to Yugoslavia in 1971 with wee Graham (our best man). Very sadly, there was an accident and they never reached Yugoslavia. It is very very busy. Must be tour buses disgorging passengers, we hear lots of different languages; today French especially! The town, or old city anyway, looks incredibly lovely after being damaged in the war 15 years ago. Weather quite overcast and cooler, expecting a downpour. Will have to find an inside restaurant tonight!!
