Gimmie A Shot Gun!!!
Oh my god I woke up so grumpy this morning! I was woken up at 5am by what sounded like hundreds of roosters!!!! There were a couple right behind our room, if someone handed me a shot gun at that moment I would have gone on a rampage! They just didn't stop crowing, why didn't we notice them yesterday? My moaning woke Chris up, he wasn't too pleased. He had a go at me and told me to listen to my iPod. It was too late by then, even though I couldn't hear their awful crowing i couldn't stop imagining it.
Chris got up a little later and went for a walk. He came back at nine and asked if I still wanted to go diving, I did so I got up and we went for breakfast. I asked the receptionist about the roosters and he told us the national sport is c*** fighting and it's a big thing on the island which is why there are so many here. He also said I'll get used to it after a while, I really hope so.
We were meant to leave at 9:30am but by the time we finished breakfast and filled out all the paperwork it was 10:30am. The instructor didn't seem very enthusiastic and the other one seemed a bit dopey. We got on the boat and were asked to put our gear on. They gave me an extra small suit when I asked for a small. I struggled to pull it up my legs and over my butt. I was still tired and a bit grumpy and couldn't shake my mood. I asked for help from the boat men as I struggled to put my BCD and tank on my back. They just looked at me for a moment. Then finally one of them helped me. I know now that we were really spoilt with the service we received on the live aboard in the Similans back in Thailand. They made everything feel so effortless.
When I jumped in with Chris and our guide Pilimer. We began to descend but then I had a another problem, I couldn't sink! Chris swam back up to help me then he called out for some more weights from the boat. It must have been because I was wearing a full length suit instead of a short suit which makes you more boyant (float more). After adding the weights I began to sink, then the guide started pointing at my regulator which should have been in my mouth. What was I doing???!!! I was sinking while holding my breath!!! I felt so stupid and stressed myself out, I stuck the regulator in my mouth and started to breath too quickly which prevented my regulator from working correctly which made me feel like i couldn't breath properly. The visibility in the water was very murky and I couldn't make Chris out very well. At that moment anxiety took over me, I started to worry about how I would react if I saw a shark, then I had a bad feeling about the dive thinking something is going to go wrong when I'm down at the bottom today. Chris realised I wasn't right so swam over to me. I kept pointing, signalling I wanted to go up. Then when Chris held me I started to feel safe again. I knew I was just panicking over absolutely nothing and realised I was just getting myself into a mess. I needed a minute to calm myself down and slow down my breathing. Chris kept hold of me and made sure I was relaxed and wanted to carry on with the dive. I felt fine so signalled to carry on.
It all happened so quickly, I really don't know what came over me! It was a very strange feeling and I felt very scared and alone for that short moment.
The rest of the dive was very normal but a bit disappointing to be honest. The visibility didn't get any better, we could only see about six meters in front of us. There was a lot of coral and small creatures, the highlight was when we spotted a giant blue strarfish and a frog fish. Our guide Pilimer was very excited about some tiny sea horses clinging onto a plant. They were so small, maybe the size of my pinky finger nail. We were ready to see some big things now like the sharks. None of the small stuff was interesting us today.
When we were back on the boat everyone was silent and looked bored. Me and Chris were the only ones talking and having a laugh with each other.
Once we were back we took another walk down to the beach just to see what was around. We passed though another village and saw two local men training their c*** to fight. Although the birds didn't have blades attached to their legs they still drew blood. Chris wants to see a real fight, I don't, he can go on his own! As much as they pissed me off last night, I still couldn't watch them tear shreds out of each other.
We also passed some young kids playing with tyres and others playing basket ball. They were well good!
As we walked along the beach we passed a small community living on the beach. They had small fish and squid drying out in the sun on huge tables. There were also a few fat pigs hiding in the shade under a bush. It was a very strange sight, I'm sure the pigs would get easily sunburnt on a beach!!!!
We put our stuff down and went for a swim in the sea. It was very calm and warm. Then we carried on walking along the beach and found a big crab, which I managed to get a good photo of :-)
We dried off and went back for lunch, played in the pool for a bit then sat in the sun for a while until dinner time. This time we waited until the sun had set so the flies weren't about.
We're diving with the thresher sharks tomorrow and have to be up at 3:30am!!! So we're having a very early night tonight. I might shove some roosters off their purches tomorrow morning, see how they like being woken up! Lol.
