We were on the road at 8am heading towards Georgia. The winds were tremendous. Luckily, we didn't encounter heavy rain, but the traffic was crazy. I took over driving on Highway 75 to give Bob a break. The buffeting winds were a challenge to handle and add trucks passing, it doubled the challenge. I lost Walt and Barb in the traffic. So, I selected a truck way off in front of me to follow. On the back of the truck, I thought it said, "Wine & Dine". I kept pace with it dreaming of the glass of Wine I was going to have after we got to camp. I followed the truck for about an hour, Then it slowed...it was a WinnDixie Truck...bummer. I was still going to have that glass of wine...make that two.
Finally, Walt checked in. Turns out they were about five miles ahead. We both needed to re-fuel and it was a good time to have lunch. I was able to ease my death grip on the steering wheel and turned the driving back over to Bob. Since we were now in Georgia, it was only fitting to introduce Walt and Barb to Chick-fil-A.
Just after lunch, the sun came out and brightened the sky. The winds lessened to a dull roar. We were all looking forward to getting to camp. The KOA Park is located on the shores of Lake Oconee under the shade of tall pine trees. Beautiful, but not condusive for Satellite access. There was an important college football game, Stanford vs Washington State, that Bob wanted to watch on Saturday. It looked like it wasn't going to happen. Bob was not a happy camper.
We put aside the challenges and disappointments of the day and decided that we were going to celebrate being out of the path of Matthew. We served New York Strip Steaks with sauteed mushrooms, Caesar salad followed by Dove Double Chocolate Bars.
Tomorrow, we are looking forward to having breakfast with Ryder, Bob's grandson, and first year student at University of Georgia in Athens GA.
