Last night once we had got back to our room from Skyping the famalam and grabbing some good, Kara discovered a tiny little lizard on our floor, so it now became my mission to catch him and put him outside. This was done with a glass and some paper (dont worry all you crazy animal lovers, he was not harmed during this!) He was pretty easy to catch but just a pain to set free, he clung to the side of the glass for a while before he lept for freedom. Obviously we had to capture this exciting part of the night on film, so theres a picture in the album of him for you. I then had to search the rest of the room at this point :-) but all was ok.
This morning it was time for us to get on the move again, we've left our little island resort and now have to travel around 1 1/2 to reach our next destination. We caught 2 boats, 1 tuk tuk, one local bus and hitchhiked with some thai's to the pier.
We got our little boat from the island and were greeted by a tuk tuk the hotel had arranged for us to take us to the bus station. Once were arrived he pointed in the right direction of the bus we had to get, so we hopped on and managed to describe to the driver where we needed to get off. By this time we hadn't paid, an didn't have a clue what time it left. My mission was to get refreshments and Kara had the task of finding out how we paid and what time the bus left.
I managed to come back with a bottle of water and some cream soda, I thought it was a bottle of Sprite but was quite shocked when I tasted it! This was not being drunk so went straight in the bin! Kara come back, the bus left at 11:55 and was still no wiser on how we had to pay.
Finally once the bus had left, the attendant come round and asked for 50 baht each, so this worked out to be around £2 for a 60km bus ride, BARGAIN!! Bare in mind that this bus had no aircon, minimal leg room and was the slowest thing on the road. But it got us to where we needed to go at minimal cost so worked out perfectly.
Once we arrived we had a 2.5km walk to the pier from the main road, there were no taxis around to drop us down. Half way along we were overtaken by some people in a Volvo, they then stopped and reversed towards us! Ha ha we were on quiet a remote road and a car decides to stop, tbh I didn't know what to think. But it turns out to be a Thai couple from Bangkok heading for the pier so they offered us a lift, by this time we had been walking for around 10 minutes lugging our backpacks with us, you can say we were a little sweaty at this point with it being 32 degrees here today. The car was freezing, they had the aircon blasting out so it was like stepping into heaven. Were so glad we got the lift as even in a car the pier was a further 2 minutes away, we definitely would have missed our boat!
Once we arrived, we thanked the couple and hopped onto our little river taxi to our resort. The boat was pretty quick, it had a big 6 cylinder Isuzu Diesel Turbo engine strapped to it, all the boats over here seem to run big diesel engines in them. Madness! It was around 5 minutes by boat along the river until we spotted The Float House up ahead, it looked amazing! This was defiantly going to be our best night yet :-)
We checked in and were given a welcome drink, it looked like honey coloured cold tea! It tasted a little strange but we finished them off not to be rude, its not like the cocktails we were given in Mexico lol. We were shown to our room and its unreal, the bed has 3 pillows, this kind of thing excites us quite bit as we've gone from pillows packed with like 3 feathers to rock hard balloon like pillows!
So were sat here now writing this on our balcony by the river absolutely loving life! I cant say I'm missing work much right now ;-) this whole place is amazing, its such an experience and I'm glad that we've taking the leap to do it. Who would have thought just over a year ago that we would be here now?
Tonight we had dinner on the resort, we reserved a table right by the water front so its nice and peaceful, the sky is lit up with all the stars. Its a perfect view and the sky is so clear. We have seen a lot of whole fish on the menus whilst eating out, so tonight was the night to take it on. The food came out and it was literally a whole fish! Ha ha, I've gotta say it was unreal. The fish was perfectly cooked and the taste was mind blowing. I can definitely see why this is a speciality here.
Its soon time to crash out in bed, the bed is literally like a 'princess bed' according to Kara, it has a mosquito net all around and resembles a 4 poster bed. I am actually excited for our heads to hit the pillow tonight :-)
We've booked another night just down he river so we can go visit the Hell Fire Pass and the Lawa Caves before heading back on the death railway. Take in a little bit of history whilst were here and some amazing views. Our main criteria for booking somewhere to stay is: Good location, Wifi and Air Con and we're happy!
J&K over and out!
