Sun 21/09/14 Woke to an amazing morning of clouds resting on the ground, sunlit mountain peaks and crisp, clean country air. Our last packup...can hardly believe we've been travelling since April. Strange feeling .... seems we have been away from home so long, but also feels like time has gone by so fast. Departed Halls Gap approx. 9.30am for the 3 hour drive. A quick stop in Ararat for fuel then headed for home....kids asking all the way "how many hours?, how much longer?" over and over and over. We counted down the kilometers and Brodie also had a countdown timer running on her iPod. When we drove through Darley, Alexis excitedly announced "I know where we are! That's Darley Park!" The fidgeting and tension grew in the car as we approached home .... turned into our home driveway to find the Jones and Slidders cousins (& Lola held by Uncle Anth) waiting near the big tree. LBA were out of the car in a flash and all 8 kids were madly chattering all at once, before taking off running for the house. GAM & Mummar snapped some pics as we drove in the driveway; a lovely welcoming party with all the immediate family waiting by the house. Awesome to see everyone after so long ... long hugs all round. The cousins had put an enormous effort into making MANY welcome home signs for LBA, that were posted up on all the windows inside. House had been cleaned - grass, gardens and pool also ... AND the fridge stocked .... we are so VERY lucky and spoiled to have the families we have. The Bodon grandparents and cousins arrived a bit later on to join the welcome home party. So great to see everyone! Kids dispersed to various activities, while adults settled in the sunshine on the back deck for drinks and catch up chat. The house feels enormous to us right now. Soooo good to be home!!!
Mon 22/09/14 Up in the morning and began the task of unpacking the van and car.....unbelievable the amount of stuff we were carrying! Today is Lukas 11th birthday, so all the family back over to celebrate with the birthday boy. Kids couldn't be happier and the 8 cousins had sleepovers planned in a jiffy. Think we'll be seeing alot of each other over the school holidays!
We hope our family and friends have enjoyed following our adventures. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to read our blog and send messages to us along the way. It was awesome to hear from you all and keep in touch with home ... especially when we were in the middle of nowhere ... which was alot of the time! (Special thanks to Mummar, GAM & Andy who gave me the nudges I needed to get this blog completed!) This trip is one of the best things we have ever done. We highly recommend putting it on your "TO DO" list. Love you all, from Kaaren, Michael, Lukas, Brodie & Alexis xoxoxo
