This morning we stayed put by our caravan enjoying sitting by the river in the warm sun and watching the birdlife.
We went down to one of the local pubs for lunch and then headed off for a drive to nearby Orange World to take a train tour of the 50 acre farm and learn more about the production of oranges and other citrus fruit.
We really enjoyed our tour with farmer and owner Mario, who made the tour fun and entertaining as well as educational. Cadbury was able to join us and he too enjoyed the tour and hopping on and off to admire and pick various fruit.
We learnt that all citrus that we eat is grafted, a fact that we were unaware of, and it was interesting to see how the trees were grafted and what combinations of fruit could be created. We also learnt that farmers make much more money growing mandarins than oranges. We got to taste some delicious varieties of oranges, mandarins and tangelos.
Interesting fact: the TV ad for Cottees cordial (yes, my dad picks the fruit that goes to Cottees...) was filmed here 18 years ago and the stylists didn't like the colour of the oranges of the orange trees themselves so they bought plastic oranges and put them on the avocado trees instead.
After our tour we enjoyed yummy home made orange cake and Dutch mini pancakes with blood orange ice cream sitting on the verandah. Nice way to end the afternoon.
Back to our campsite and just in time to relax some more by the river before cooking a light dinner.
Night night - another lovely day away xx
