Hong Kong Day 8
Sadly that time has arrived, the last day of our Australian Walkabout and our last day in Hong Kong. We have seen so many sights over the last nine weeks that it's difficult to think back right now as to what they all were. Having said that just by thinking so many memories start to come back and we have not even started to look at the thousands of photos we have taken. Still that is for tomorrow, there is still today in Hong Kong.
We woke to the clearest day of our stay so that confirmed the intention to go up The Peak on the tram. It only came back into operation yesterday after maintenance so we had not been able to use it on our first trip up. As expected with its reopening and being Sunday the queue was quite long but seemed to move quick enough. The ride up was great, we were in the last seat at the back so could see the view of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the harbour open up as we ascended. More concerning was the angle we were going up at times, felt like 45 degrees but was probably less. The view from the top was certainly worth it, being a lot clearer than the earlier visit. We could see much further around HK and out to the surrounding islands.
The trip down was much quicker with a shorter wait for the tram. Once down we walked to Bauhinia Square on the harbour edge behind the convention centre. It is here that there is a large casting in gold of the flower on the HK flag commemorating the handback of HK to China. The formal ceremony took place in the convention centre and is recorded with a brief exhibition by the exit from the centre to the square.
We then set of to walk back to the hotel but this proved too slow with the crowds out shopping so we hopped on the Ding Ding one last time. Once back time for a shower and change before catching the shuttle to the airport. Arriving at the airport one or two last purchases required before departure and then in to the business lounge for a glass of wine
