Some time in the past 18 years I've fallen in love with the 5* spa experience. I think I can both thank and blame my friend Christina Brown for this addiction. To think could have blissfully gone on forever doing my own toenails and thinking wraps were a kind of sandwich...
Anyways, I've been lucky enough to visit some of the best spas in the world; including an unforgettable stay at Como Shambhala at Begawan Giri in Bali, the One & Only in the Bahamas and now Ananda in the Himalayas. Recipients of "best spa in the world" awards, these places have been unforgettable. Ananda is beautiful, built into the mountainside and a Maharaja's palace, looking down at the Ganges, it is serene and alive with the sounds if the wildlife that shares the forest. On the drive from the airport I saw countless monkeys (yay!) as well as many signs on the highway warning of wild elephants. The forest also hides leopard, tiger, wild boar and several species of deer. At night all you hear are these animals making their nocturnal progress. I'm hoping to go on safari and see some wild elephants and leopards. That may be a by greedy however given I've already seen black rhino and Bengal tiger on my two other safaris so I can't be greedy, right?
