Friday 29th May
Breakfast starts at 8 and we have to be gone by 8:45 to make our bike tour. But...it's raining and we get an email that the tour is cancelled. We spend time researching until the rain stops and decide at the very least we need to go for groceries. The walk down the hill isn't as long as it seemed yesterday and we discover the lower entrance to the hostel. We look for the supermarket and discover a Citibank and are able to buy a small piece adaptor to replace the one we discovered we left at the previous hotel! Can't do much without our technology charged. We eventually find the supermarket and it's busy. We buy 5 bags worth and start heading back. We see a tour agent and stop for a brochure with costs. After walking up the hill to the hostel we eat and research the tours. We find a better one online and head out to their office. When we get there we book for Sunday and they give us a bag with tourist stuff for rio. We walk further to the beach and enjoy the sun and the gorgeous views. We get accosted by ppl selling hats and a bag made of a zip that's can be unzipped. He then offers us drugs. No thanks. We stop at the point military museum and look around. It's very cheap. About $5 for the both of us.
On the way back we stop at the bank, but it's closed. Malcolm buys some more fruit from the still crazy supermarket. Back at the hostel we gather food and prepare potatoes, guacamole and corn chips. The tomatoes I brought turn out to be over ripe persimmons. They had their stem and leaves hidden in the packaging. They were much more red than the tomatoes! That's why I got them. I hope not too many ppl get surprise persimmons!
Dinner is amazing and the view great. Later some megaphoned hill song music drifts up from somewhere, followed by speaking. I guess there is an outreach somewhere!
