Santorini Shore Excursion: Private Tour of Oia and Fira, including Museum of Prehistoric Thira and Wine Tasting

From: £78.86

Duration: 5 hours

Category: Outdoors

On this private shore excursion from the Santorini port, you will cover all the top sights of the island. Start your tour at a local winery, where you’ll sample three of the 36 types of wine that Santorini produces. Then explore the unique villages of Oia and Fira, built on the caldera rim, grab a snack at one of the local cafes, and learn interesting facts about the island at the Naval Maritime Museum and the Museum of Prehistoric Thira. You will also have time to wander around the cobbled streets and shops of Fira before returning to the port by cable car.

When you arrive in the Santorini port, meet your private guide to begin your sightseeing tour of this beautiful Greek island. Your shore excursion starts as you board a small boat and enjoy panoramic views on the short ride to the Athinios harbor. There, hop in a private car for a drive to the nearby village of Pyrgos. Stop at one of the beautiful wineries for a tasting of three local wines. Santorini's volcanic soil, high daytime temperatures and nighttime humidity have helped islanders to produce 36 different kinds of grape varieties.

Then visit the Prehistoric Museum Thira (or Thera). The museum holds many objects from Crete and the Aegean islands. See artifacts from the excavation of Akrotiri, including a gold ibex, the only object made of a precious metal discovered at the archeological site.

Next, travel to Oia, a village built on the northern part of the caldera rim, with many dwellings nestled into the niches of the volcanic rock. Visit the Naval Maritime Museum, a 19th-century mansion converted into a museum. Follow your private guide as you explore the town's narrow, cobbled streets.

Finally, travel to Fira, another attractive town perched on the caldera rim. Fira is the island's capital and home to many interesting stories, as your guide will explain. From here, enjoy the last views of the island on the short cable car ride down to the Santorini port.

You may request that your private guide schedule free time during your tour so you can get a snack or lunch (own expense). Please do this as soon as you meet your guide, before the tour starts.
