The granola bought at Granville we enjoyed for breakfast, along with a number of other items produced from a freezer, pantry and fridge that seemed to have a never ending supply of homemade delicacies. We are being treated to some wonderful food and great hospitality.
At mid morning we set off or Downtown Vancouver to see some of the sights of the city. Stopping a number of times we saw the Law Courts (modern building with stepped external walls and gardens and lit internally by sheer glass and steel), the Anglican Cathedral of St Mary the Virgin (service was on so did not have the opportunuty to have a good look around but was able to see inside and read about their mission for water in the Ottawa Province) and the Library (impressive new semi circular building). I was quite impressed with the Cathedral's sign that said "Welcome Open for Visitors - 'Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds' ...I think I could use this in my parish.
After the city, we headed for Juniper Park and Locarno Beach. The most striking thing about the beach was that there were rather large logs on the beach for people to sit on, we found this strange. There were also great views of the city water systems. The beach itself was a bit gritty and browinsh in colour, not like the white sand of Perth, but the water was much warmer. There was also no rolling waves as it was a rather sheltered inlet, reminded me more of the Swan River than a beach.
We were back home in North Vancouver by 2pm and had lunch, and then set out again to visit Lynn Canyon. Ken was very keen to take me to a swing bridge as he remembered my fear of them in Nepal, and there was a swing bridge at Lynn Canyon. This was a lovely forrested wooded area, a national park land not far from their home. The swing bridge was okay, sturdy and well constructed, not too long, and spanned the river below. Once across the bridge we had a lovely walk along the trails, trees towering above us, river flowing beside us, and plenty of photo opportunities. It was a beautiful setting.
Back at home Tina had nade another lovely dinner and we reminisced over our day as we ate together.
