Friday 11th July
While Mark was at Stag do...Well we survived through the night and made our way to the bus stop to get as bus to Trogir. It was simple enough and we slept a lot of the way....surprise surprise! When we arrived the first thing we had to do was find somewhere to sleep, so we began knocking on doors and being turned away, everywhere was full due to the festivals. Eventually a lady called her neighbour who called another neighbour who had a room....result, the apartment wasn't big but it was perfect for the night and within budget. The lady only spoke a tiny bit of English so we spoke mainly with gestures as she showed us how to use the oven and tv.
We then ventured out and strolled around the old town and walked up to the top of the bell tower which was once agin at our own risk but this time because of the step narrow stairs!!! After grabbing some lunch and messaging Mark we decided it was time to hit the beach and relax so we headed back to the apartment to change.....this was not the best idea. The lady caught us and poured us a drink of brandy....so strong for 2 in the afternoon, and then spent the next hour or so showing us pictures on Facebook, communicating with a Croatian to English dictionary and making coffee....which went down a lot easier then the brandy (which Georgie was discreetly pouring down the sink).
We finally managed to get out of the apartment....bless her....and headed to the beach, it was nice to chill out and read my book.
As the sun started to fade and the wind picked up we realised it was time to head back, change and head out for dinner, we managed to get through the process without seeing our land lady....although as we left her 87 year old mother started shouting at us in Croatian.....I said we didn't understand and that we were going out!!
We got a bargain dinner... 3 courses and a drink for £6 each! We decided to have an early night as it was nearly midnight and we headed back only to find that the door had been bolted from the inside...we knocked on the door, checked around back, wiggled it and eventually Georgie knocked on the door opposite to see of she could call the lady and she opened the door for us straight away with a little pully thing....awkward!
Saturday 12th July
We woke up to the sound of Georgie's alarm packed up and headed to the bus station. We decided not to get the local bus so waited an hour for the next direct service....I was not feeling up for the longer journey no matter how much cheaper!
As we pulled into Split station we prepared ourselves to haggle for a sobe (room) as the Ultra festival was in full swing and we were expecting to pay a lot....as soon as we got off the bus people started to offer there rooms to us, I got one guy down from 100 euros to 60 before realising they were a 15 minute drive out if town....no thank you! We ended up being approached by a guy who had a room nor old town for 300 kuna....sold, so once again we found ourselves in a strangers car being driven to an unknown location, our parents would be pleased.
The room turned out to be pretty decent and near enough in old town, even though the price went up by 100 when we arrived it was worth paying. Settled in we headed out to the beach, it was packed but we eventually managed to find a spot to soak up the rays and have a dip, again without Georgie having to jump in!
We decided to treat ourselves to a nice lunch when we saw the burgers people were eating and we could barley manage to finish....delicious. Then we walked around the old town, decided not to climb the tower as we were knackered, got changed and went out for a few beverages....
Sunday 13th July
It's my birthday...yay....George had a few pressies and cards for me to open so that was nice however the thunderstorm outside didn't sound to welcoming and we had to head to the bus stop to meet Mark after he got backfrom the Stag do. Electric Elephant Festival.......when he arrived we managed to get a bus that was running late into Mostar, perfect for us! Mark wished me happy birthday....and that was that....bless he isn't very good at birthdays and I do love them :(
So I spent most of my birthday on buses crossing into Bosnia and when we arrived at the bus station a lady greeted us offering us a room near the bus stop for a great price of €8. Then we walked into old town....it was so eerie to see all the buildings covered in bullet holes from the war. Old town was really nice with cobbled stone streets and Ottoman era buildings lining the streets. We got some great shots of the famous Stari Most bridge after lunch. This bridge is another Unesco site. It looked like it was made from the same stone as Dubrovnich. The brige was totally destroyed in the war, but painstakely rebuilt using the traditional material and construction method. We strolled around and saw the Kriva Cuprija, a smaller stone bridge I hink one of the oldest. When we chilled and went for a birthday beer...or a Mark watching the World Cup final and a few beers as it should be known.
