We slept well and woke to sunny blue skies with temps in the low 30's, very nice :-)
After scrambled eggs and coffee in our room we set off with few real plans.
Out of Boston heading for the sea we found several quite nice sandy beaches, gentle waves lapping the shore. It must be more a mud flat though vs a sandy beach as the water looked filthy as it hit the sand. We slowly followed the shore line through wealthy looking suburbs with odd names like Swampscot & Marblehead.
Into Salem and we checked out the visitors info centre. There's a red line throughout town that you can follow to find the historical places. I expected it to take us to places with historical marker boards as do similar walking trails in others cities but this one just led us to places of little or no interest to us. There was nothing about the witch trials that Salem is famous for unless you count it leading us to dodgy looking "museums" with what trip advisor refers to really bad acting and mannequins in bad wigs hanging from ropes so we gave those places a miss lol
In the end we had a nice walk on a sunny day along uneven brick footpaths past some cool old houses and a big sailing ship moored at the maritime historical area.
Back to the car we found a nearby supermarket to grab some turkey for lunch and went to a lovely park by the water to make it. There were a lot of Canada geese in the park and lovely shady oak trees.
With Karen and Ret away until Thursday we've decided to give visiting them a miss for this year. The only plans we have is to visit and stay with Sanjay on Thurs before heading to Tal's for three nights. Today is Monday so we have two days to get to Sanjay's which is only six or seven hours away. So, after checking on maps we took the long way as usual meandering through Massachusetts. Along the way we passed through Concord, home of the author of Little Women & where the war of independence began. Near the Air Force Base we came across a flock of wild turkeys.
We stopped briefly in a town called Groton to pick up some cider and wine before going on to Gardner and finding a hotel for the night.
Couple of drinks and we had some of the fresh corn we bought from a roadside stall and then the crock pot chicken curry I made last night for dinner.
