So here we are home and back from reality. As I am sure you have figured out Dave and I have been switching writing our blog posts the last 5 months. We are both going to post our final thoughts.
After our spectacular week in Iceland it was time to head home. It was quite shocking the amount of snow piled in our driveway. We took a few days to do our laundry, clean the house and get back to the Alberta time zone. It was nice to see our family, friends and pets.
Somehow the snow didn't seem to want to melt, so 3 days later we were back at the international airport. Now tempting as it was to hop on a plane far from reality, we realized that we needed to grow up at some point. We were actually picking up a friend we had met in our travels. Cailin came for visit after her 8 months of travel and her last leg of her trip. It was nice too see a fellow traveller. With Cailin around we had a few days distraction from job hunting.
It is funny how quickly you can get back to real life. The leaky tap that needs to be fixed, the bills that are waiting to be paid, conversations with friends continue with updates on how there children are or who is expecting another one. It is hard to take in how nothing has changed even after you have seen so much in such a short time.
Part of me is happy to be back home and back to routine but the other part of me is wishing we had seen more and stayed away longer. I really feel as if I am coming down from a 5 month high. The fall is harder than I thought it would have been. I loved the places we went the experiences we had and the people we met. The world has so much to offer and it makes me sad that not everyone has the ability to see it. Of course we will get the question what is your favorite place and I can't answer that question. Most of the places we visited had features that made them the best and I truly can't pick just one. The one thing I can say is that our experience with Habitat for Humanity was amazing and I would recommend that everyone should experience a volunteer program like that. I know we will be volunteering again.
I want to thank you for following our posts, I didn't know if anyone would actually read our blog or even be interested in our adventures. The comments and support truly helped in our experience. This has been a trip of a lifetime and I know when I am 90 I won't regret a single hour we spent away.
I would like to sign off with my favorite saying.
" the world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page"

noreen harder Always enjoyed reading your blog. So good to be able to follow your adventures. Great final comments - hope reality isn't too hard on you. I find most people tell you how you must be so glad to be home, but I always grieve the holiday for a little while. My wish for you is that you continue to have the ability, desire, and means to travel. I think the world would be a better place if all people were able to experience it.
Annette I just noticed both of you did final entries. Reading this makes me wish I would have kept up with my blog that lasted all of 3 months. I can't wait to see you in person to share experiences. Even though I've been working and traveling I am expecting to feel a fall when we return this autumn. Just this weekend we jetted off to Shanghai. It's a pretty great lifestyle over here. Congrats on your memorable journey.
