Today was a day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage town of Cesky Krumlov. The old part of the town attracts numerous tourists and is just stunning. The first time I have depleted my camera battery before the day was done. It is 2 1/2hrs by bus so it was a long day, but well worth it to see the fabulous old buildings, cathedral and castle. There are numerous little shops and eateries and gorgeous little alleys and laneways. Lunch was included in the tour and was I guess a typical Czech meal - garlic soup (not my thing - like hot water and garlic with cheese melted in it), followed by a pork chop (they love their pork - there are pigs on spits on the streets of Prague) and potatoes, then honey cake for dessert. If you order a standard beer it's 1/2 a litre so I had a 'small' one. We were then taken on a tour of the chateau which has furnishings and paintings going back to the 17th century - really interesting tour. There is also a 'bear moat' with 3 bears at the moment. Not ideal conditions and I hate seeing animals like that, but apparently they are working on plans to improve it. Bears were kept there going back to the 1700's so it's more a historical thing than a tourism thing. Back on the bus and home just on dark - I loved walking back to my apartment - Prague is so vibrant at night and I could walk around for hours.
