We left the Bungle Bungle Ranges and headed to Kununurra. Kununurra has a population of around 7,500 people. It has only been around since 1961 and was formed due to the construction of the Ord Irrigation Scheme. It's a really nice place to be at because by the time you get here you've had enough of the red dirt and dust, and here there is so much water. Lake Kununurra, Ord River, Diversion Dam and Lake Argyle, there is water everywhere. We checked into the Kiberleyland Holiday Park. The lady in reception was from Maryborough, her and her husband used to own the Legends Cafe, they were on a 12 month working holiday. They knew people we knew, so that was really weird. Anyway the park is a really nice park overlooking the Buddah rock formation and right on the edge of Lily Creek Lagoon. Which is not actually a lagoon, it's a huge lake that joins Kununurra Lake. It even has houseboats on it. It was around 30 degrees so we wasted no time in hitting the pool. I would have swum in the lagoon but there are fresh water crocodiles in there (which don't hurt you) but they can entice large salt water crocodiles to the area, so best not tempt fate. That afternoon we had a look around town and went grocery shopping. I was unloading the groceries into the car and I turned around and an aboriginal bloke had taken off with my trolley. He wanted the $1.00 inside it. So I ran him down, gave him a serve and got my trolley back. But aside from that we had no issues. That evening there was entertainment on the bank of the lagoon at the caravan park. It was great to sit there with a drink and watch the one man band perform modern and classic songs. A great way to relax and spend the evening. We planned the next day to go out to the Hoochery Distillery and Sandalwood factory before heading out to the Lake Argyle Caravan Park. However at 8:00am when we rang the Lake Argyle Caravan Park they had already filled their ten bookings for the day. They said come out straight away and you may be able to get in. A little disappointing for us as we did want to do other things around Kununurra.
