Ive spent the last week visiting ski resorts all over the southern part of norway, meeting people and telling them that they should give me a job for the winter. It is a little difficuilt for me though because i dont speak any of the scandinavian languages, so work opportunities are a bit limited. I have a couple of possibilities though but will wait to hear from them in a few weeks when they know what staff they need for the season. I spent my time from Alta to here living in my tent camped off the side of the road. It was a struggle to keep from stinking when i went to meet people to try and leave a good impression that wasnt 'jee that guy really stank!' but i did my best. I think i have saved quite a bit of money by not staying in accomodation but it is nice now to be warm and dry again with a roof over my head. Now staying with Turid and Ragner, friends of Ken and Wendys from home. The have made me very welcome and the view from here overlooking Oslo is pretty spectacular.
I have now seen most of the supermarkets in norway. I cannot carry much food so i tend to go to the supermarket a coupla times each day. At least here though i can, not like in mongolia where I struggled to find places to buy food. I did have one problem at a servo with the fuel. I topped up and went to ride off but the bike wasnt happy. She was coughing and spluttering and sounding sick. I followed the standard procedure of try and ignore it but it would go away. So i kicked it but that didnt work either. I then tried yelling at it, still no luck. After getting stuck into the problem i ended up removing the fuel tank and draining it, putting new, different fuel in and things were all good. The servo attendant wouldnt give me credit for new fuel so i left the 20 litres worth in containers at the front door of the servo. She wanted me to take it, i looked at here, then my bike, said where do you want me to put it, laughed and rode off! Amazing that the funny smelling, barely burnable stuff that the bike drank in mongolia caused no problem and norwegian fuel, clean and green causes problems, go figure hey.
I will head south soon, to follow the warmth and look forward to meeting lotsa people in the middle part of Europe. For now though, its just nice to have warm, dry feet, and to not get wet when it rains... the simple things eh :)
