We woke up to glorious weather and so Decided to head to the coast, Tuaranga on the Bay of Plenty.
Tuaranga itself was not very exciting and is a town actually upriver from the sea, with its port between it and the sea. After a look around, we headed for the beach for a very nice lunch overlooking a very blue Pacific. After lunch we walked around the base of Mt Maunganui, a large volcanic plug at the entrance to the port; great views all around. This was followed by a walk on a shorter headland, a paddle in the sea and a hearty fresh fruit ice-cream.
There was a life-saving competition going on while we were there with Surf rescue boats, kayaks and boards and lots of very fit life guards that we would both have been pleased to be saved by.
Back to Rotorua for supper after a most enjoyable lazy Sunday.
