So the last few days are a bit of a blur, all this cycling is affecting my short term memory. I spent the first two days riding through the Hay plains. Like the Nullarbor plains people had told me that the Hay plains are desolate and arid but it wasn't. Due to all the rain and water the plains were green and lush. The wildlife was clearly loving it, I saw loads of Emus and interesting looking water birds. Even though it was flat and I had a horrible cross wind I enjoyed cycling across the plains and watching all the animals. In the last few days the temperature has really dropped which is adding a new dimension to my ride. My tent is covered In dew and condensation in the mornings so I have to try and wait for the sun to dry it before I leave otherwise I'm sleeping in a wet tent. When cycling I have had to cover myself head to toe to keep out the cold. I have been wearing my Lycra tights, thermal top, cycling top, wind breaker, buff (round head and face), two pairs of gloves and sunglasses (keeps the wind out my eyes and makes me look cool). I'm actually enjoying the new conditions as everything had become a bit routine, as I said it adds a new dimension. On the way to West Wyalong from Googowi the scenery was amazing. I was cycling though twisting and climbing hills surrounded by woodland, it could of been Canada but maybe that was the cold. The last two days have been a hard slog, I'm suffering from flat tyre syndrome! Even though I don't have a headwind I am having trouble sustaining any pace or speed which is making me really frustrated. I go through a list in my head: are the tyres flat-no, are the brakes jammed-no, is there something wrong with the gears-no, is there a headwind-no, well why the f*** am I going so slow! I have named this flat tyre syndrome. Anyway, Im encountering more hills, the blue
Mountains are close and will come into focus soon. I can't wait to take on the blue mountains, they are literally my final hurdle and what stand before me and Sydney. 5 days to go, 500k's to go, let's do this!
