Day 17
I'm leaving Barcelona without seeing as much as I would have liked. I sat on the couch yesterday in some spare and watched youtubes clips on Antoni Gaudi and I would have loved to have seen more of his work. Anyway no regrets, I will return with the family one day and hopefully the La Sagrada Familia will be complete.
The bus trip to San Sebastián is 7 hours but I'm so exhausted that the majority of it is spent dozing away. The landscape is dry with the occasional vineyard but little life exists in northern Spain. As we reached Basque Country the environment changed dramatically with beautiful lush green hills and rivers, it's a very stunning place!
We arrived in San Sebastián around 4pm, which is early in Spanish time. Lunch does not end until 4.30pm and dinner begins around 9pm so the day is not lost. We checked into our accommodation greeted by Tanya who loves her city and has no time for Madrid and little time for Barcelona. She gave us some advice on places eat and visit but we are fixed on going straight to the surf beach on the other side of town.
I was pumped to get to the beach, I miss the salt air and it makes me appreciate where I live. I waisted no time getting in the water and enjoying the surf all arvo. The weather is perfect at the moment and I feel like I can relax for the first time in weeks.
San Sebastián is amazing but much larger than I would have imagined. It's also peak season and travels from all over the world pack the beaches and frequent the hundreds of tapas bars into the early hours of the morning.
Ryan and I chose a restaurant at random and rather than eating Pintxos we decided to sit and order a meal. The food was ok, I was expecting it to blow me away for some reason. I've been a little disappointed with food whilst on my travels, perhaps I have selected my meals poorly or maybe Australia has great good. I'd like to think the latter.
We retired pretty early in the night both exhausted from travel and anxious to feel good for a long day at the beach tomorrow.

Renée Australia does have great food - it's the multicultural influences combined with good produce. However I remember loving tapas in Spain. Food in Germany never stood out. Have really loved your blogs.
Sherri Glad you re wrote the deleted days! Enjoy your last moments of solitude!
Mum Oh, a bit sad to hear you say you are just starting to relax. However site seeing and relaxing holiday are two different things. Oh, for another week, eh! Still, lots of good times ahead xx
