Apologies for this being a little late folks - it's been a little manic!
From ko lanta to singapore was a 30 hour bus-come-minibus-come-boat ride, and our hardest yet. The minibuses were pretty good with air con although our driver was a little crazy on the roads (think he spent more time on the wrong side than the right). After around 17 hours of minibuses we finally got to the now notorius 'VIP' bus which was the best yet although everyone on the bus froze from the air conditioning breakage. Then got to a random town and were told our tickets wouldn't take us to singapore, ended up shelling out more money for a ticket to singapore for a new VIP bus.
Once in singapore we loved it - so clean and friendly, some guy gave us 10 dollars (5 quid) just to get to an ATM in a bus. The airport was incredible, although the swimming pool we'd heard about was overrated and would have cost 13 dollars just to see it, screw that we're on a budget here. Vik got herself a new camera with lots of free stuff (worth buying anything in singapore just for the free stuff they chuck in) and is now snapper happy once again.
The flight was a doddle compared to the 30 hour trip (we now feel hardcore travellers anything under 10 is piece of piss).
Melbourne: all loved melbourne although only had couple days there, noticed there were lots of cakes everywhere so all very happy. Sitting in maccy d's we decided on how to go about getting around aus. From the beginning we wanted a camper van but due to the easter season found they were all taken (b*****!). The only options were the greyhound budget travel or camping with a rental car. Jon and steve didn't want to camp for fear of being eaten by something (bunch of girls) and so they went with the greyhound + hostels route. The rest of us went for the car and camping, which seems to have turned out pretty well as we've decided now to extend the rental all the way up to cairns. Rach is driver and on the whole pretty safe..until it rains or there's a red light. The roads here take some getting used to, as they don't seem to use road numbers/names only where the next town is (and no warnings).
In the car we've seen a different side of aus that we would have otherwise missed. The rolling countryside down in the south and up towards sydney is like a more dramatic england - green/sheep/cows/hills but no chavs! So far we've only seen a dead tarantula and a bunch of kangas. Vik met her family which was nice, me and rach b*****ed off into sydney to check out the bridge/opera house and get the expected photos like a million other snap happy tourists before us. I've now completely run out of poses for the various shots and feel feel lost beyond the lens ha!
We're now heading up the coast towards brisbane/surfers paradise for some surf and good times.
