Two days in one blog this could be a challenge! Going back to yesterday which started with a 6am alarm call and a 2 hr journey back up the hana highway. The road is very narrow and one side is a sheer drop but I survived and again I even remembered to let the locals passed as they hurtle pass in their huge vans with the open backs. As i got closer to the airport I spotted a rainbow and it was positioned as though the end was in the sea. I couldnt pull over :-( until about 2 miles later as i was passing the kite and windsurfing beach. As I turned in there it was back again as per the photos. Splendid. I dropped off the car without a hitch and then it was time to fly 35 mins to Kona airport on the big island.
Phew my bag is still in the limit! I landed at Kona picked up my car which I later found out had as much power as my electric bike in san francisco! Then went to find my first accomm which was close to the airport up a steep hill! keely was the host and the room and location was 5 star! There were two dogs who were lovely after 30 mins I had to dash off as I had a tour booked to go to up Mauna Kea 14,000 ft in the sky!
This was rather awesome the summit is also home to 13 telescopes which are there to study the moon planets and stars. According to national geographic it is one of the cleanest unpolluted parts of the sky! It was a bit chilly but they provided coats and it was great to see the sunset above the clouds we also had an astronomy lesson after so i am a bit more educated about the stars - which wasnt hard as I knew nothing!
I then returned to keelys which was all wide open! A safe neighbourhood clearly! There was another couple there who I met this morning they had been there for 3 weeks! I planned my morning having chuckled about keelys motion sensor bin and coffee machine that turned itself off! I had a beach morning first to a locals beach which whilst fun was not very swimming friendly they all had their body boards! So then i went to the next bay which was part of a country club but they let me in! I got a bit burnt where i missed my suncream :-( Im on my second bottle of factor 50 mum-dont panic :-)
I then grabbed some food got out the sun in the shops and then drove north to the next accommodation - a self sufficient eco farm 'off the grid' it even has its own wind turbine! It is gorgeous the bathroom is half outdoors but private! Ive been invited for breakfast at 7:15 tomorrow! Ive read an article about the owners they built this place in 2008 and imported lots of eco friendly material. Very different from last nights Accomm but equally lovely! I popped out around sunset time to a really pretty bay i dont think the photos did it justice but the setting was peaceful and calm. Oh there are two more dogs here ! It is just making me miss teddy more although i hear he has been as happy as a dog in cow pooh - literally!
