Today we ventured onto the outer banks of North Carolina. First stop was Kill Devil hill where Wilbur and Orville Wright conducted man' first flight. Pretty neat place, spent couple of hours exploring the site and walking the hill where the flight initiated.
We then continued down the highway and pulled over at a rest stop which has a road which leads to the Atlantic Ocean and the beach. We started walking down the roadway when we noticed trucks were passing us and driving onto the beach. Well if trucks can go onto the beach so can the HMS Serendipity. So back I go and drive down the roadway but suffered a momentary lapse of good judgement and stopped just short of the beach.
Damn that was cool. Waves crashing, wind blowing us, happily eating one of Dom' s delicious sandwiches. That woman is a gifted sandwich maker.
Back on the road where we had to roll Sara onto a ferry for a 40 minute ride.
That was fun and Dominique fared really well.
We got off the ferry and drove 15 minutes down the highway on the outer banks. The roadway was sand covered due to blowing winds.
We then put Sara back on a second ferry for a 2 1/2 hr ferry ride back to the main land, this cost 35 bucks.
During the first hour we had a pod of dolphins playing in the ship's wake. I have a video of it and will try and put it on the blog . This was amazing to watch.
The last hour and a half the ferry sailed onward in dense fog blowing its horn every 5 minutes or so. This scared Dom so bad she had trouble falling asleep in Sara during the trip. Don't worry she was successful.
We then disembarked and found the Goose Creek campground where we had a rousing game of hearts on the picnic table before bed.
Off to myrtle beach tomorrow
