Week Six - Ko Samui, that final goodbye, Ko Phangan and our last night in South East Asia
That morning, or should I say afternoon, I treated myself to a lie in whilst the team relaxed by the pool. I later joined them and topped up my Phi Phi tan. It was red hot and luckily the four of us had the pool to ourselves, we listened to music, sunbathed and played games in the pool. The girls won of course. We had a picnic, which consisted of the famous 7 Eleven Cheese and Ham toasties. They had become our go to for a cheap food fix and they were delicious. We teamed them up with lots of crisps, fruit and orange juice.
We were looking forward to the Irish Beauts arriving as we had planned to go for dinner with them and watch the famous ladyboy caberate. They had some lads visiting from back home so once we had our catch up the plan was to join in with the crack and get truly messed up with the Irish possy, and so we did! The Cabaret was grand, the ladyboys were stunning and it was fantastically cheesy with imitations of Madonna and Whitney Houston. After that, it was time to meet the Irish lads and so we headed to Ark bar. Learning a trick from Phi Phi (oh how I miss u) we bought some alcohol from the shop and drank that by the beach. We headed to the main strip where we literally danced the night away, we were super drunk, super sweaty and I had one of the best nights I have ever had. We ended the night at 7am with emotional goodbyes to the girls and a slurred walk home.
The following day was another pool day, we hadn't really had a pool before so we much preferred to stay by the pool then find the beach and that's pretty much all our day consisted of. We settled for a chilled night as we were travelling the day after, we went to a restaurant for some local food which was on offer, we went back to the restaurant from the first night. We planned to say a sober and an absolute final goodbye to the Irish Beauts and we met over ice cream (I had coconut and mint choc chip, my favourite), walked a while, hugged it out and finally said goodbye. The girls were staying in Samui and would then miss us is Phanang due to their schedule to catch the full moon there. We had already made a Whatsapp group for the 4 of us and planned a mental holiday to Phi Phi Island and a reunion once Alex and I was home. We looked forward to seeing them again, they really were special.
And so it was to bed, for an early start to Ko Phangan. I lapped up lots of love off our bungalow pooch and was sad to say bye to him. He was on our porch of course. And so it was good night to Samui.
Our transfer to the ferry picked us up early doors, the ferry was about an hour and we all slept along the way. Again, we travelled to Phangan with The Posh Boys, I still throughly enjoyed Sam's company and Alex and Josh were getting on great. I already preferred the look of Phangan to Samui, both were islands however Samui being the biggest felt like just another normal place. Being on the islands, I was looking for that special island feeling and Phangan gave me that a little more. We grabbed some wifi to scope out somewhere and got a taxi to Beach Village Resort. It was gorgeous. Huge pool, directly on the beach with our own private beach, chill out area and one of my favourite things, bungalow pets! On day two I fastly fell in love with a pooch who followed me around and we had a lovely snug in the chill out area. He also became pretty fond of Sam. The four of us shared a four bed dorm with two bunk beds. We spent the day chilling by the pool, we grabbed food at the hostel whilst The Posh Boys grabbed some alcohol, we got ready and played drinking games in the room. Sam introduced a game he plays with his family at Christmas, each person has to write down about 10 different people, they go into a hat and then on teams, you have to describe the person to your team member hoping they guess correctly to gain a point. Each round is about 90 seconds. With no surprise Josh and I battered Alex and Sam winning with about 5 extra points! After completing the bottle of Whiskey and 4 M10's (pure energy shots we mixed in with the whiskey and coke), we headed out to scope out the nightlife and discovered the party beach. Alex and I got our absolute dance (and drink on). Raving ourselves into our happy places we spotted the beach bar was selling high nitro balloons. I brought two. They were huge. We sat on the step and breathed in and out of the balloon. They were trippingly good, I had the craziest trips and couldn't stop laughing. We ended up having four by the end of the night. Once the music had finished we sat on the beach talking little sense, we got a tuktuk, grabbed a 7 Eleven feast, went back to our hostel and decided it was a good idea to jump into the pool and eat our munch there. We soon crashed out once we were dry.
The following day was planned to be full of pre-drinking and excitement for the Half Moon jungle festival (the main reason we went to Phangan) however we found out the Thai police had cancelled it. We woke to rain, and lots of it, all day long. There was nothing to do and so we mooched in the chill out area all day, this is where I met my new pooch. That night we decided to go for a meal at a restaurant close to the hostel, we found a mexican and had an absolute feast! Each having a main course plus a side of nachos and homemade quoc! We were stuffed to the brim and fully satisfied. Early night. Lights out.
There was rain again to our disappointment and it was pretty set that we were definitely not going to be able to discover any part of Phangan.
Today was our last day in Phangan. We again did nothing but chill at the hostel, we decided on a nice goodbye meal, football and a few drinks. This was going to be our last night with The Posh Boys and it's safe to say I was a little sad about it. We had some nice grub and stopped of at a hostel bar for a rum and coke. We strolled back, talked a lot and fell to sleep.
We were up early the next day for our day of travelling back to Bangkok. We hugged it out with the boys, wished them well and hit the road. The day consisted of 12 hours worth of travelling with most means of transport. There was the tuktuk to the ferry, the ferry to Surat (which was crazy by the way, as we pulled up to the harbour we was stuck in a pure monsoon, the locals were going crazy as we couldn't pull in and had crashed into another boat, we were downstairs and there was water gushing down the stairs, it's easy to admit, we were terrified) after we anchored down, it was a dash to a bus, we were drenched, absolutely wet through head to toe, then there was a stop after an hour and a half where we were chucked off the bus, with only 45 minutes to get to the airport we panicked, jumped into a tuktuk and screamed at him how quickly we need to get to the airport, he drove like an absolute maniac, the rain was darting at us from all directions but we managed to get there 15minutes before our flight! So then there was the plane, then a 15 minute public bus journey and then a change over with another hour and a half bus journey. Who thought it was a good idea to catch a public bus during rush hour in Thailand's capital?! Finally arriving we checked into the same hostel from the last time we were in Bangkok. What a day! Not being the kinda girls to take a blow from a 12 hour journey, we showered then hit up Bangkok, we grabbed some street food, a few beers and headed for the famous ping pong show. We were escorted down a dingy alley way and then pushed into a tuktuk for about 20 minutes, we arrived at a back street door and entered an almost pitch black room, there was a tiny stage with chairs around. There were various performances and of course, the all famous Ping Pong show! It was actually quite impressive! After we'd watched the show we headed back to our hostel.
We woke up to rain (a common thing at the moment) but excitement as we had arranged to meet Tiago, a guy we met in Vietnam (the gorgeous gay one remember)! Alex went on a date with the blue eyed Russian so I decided to catch up on some sleep and slept most of the day. When Alex arrived back we got changed and headed out to the Red Light District of Bangkok, we scoped out the market and treated ourselves to a few things. We had a walk down the seedy strip, it's actually bizarre, outside the bars, or even just apartment space sit 6-10 girls, lined up on stools, dolled up to the high heavens and the men can simply take there pick of whom ever they want. The disturbing thing is, some look barely 16. It was very odd, fascinating and sad. After we had a look we headed back to the main strip to meet Tiago, having an early flight in the morning we swore we would have an early night. We didn't. We drank until we was kicked out and then added a bottle of whiskey into the mix. We drank it all, between the 3 of us, and found a spot by a busker and partied on the street until 5am singing and dancing to the likes of The Beatles and Oasis with fellow travellers. What a way to say our final gutting emotional goodbye to Asia. I'll love you forever.
