Hi All,
After a couple of nice and relaxed months 'campervan-ing' in Australia and New Zealand, we were ready for some backpacking in Asia. Hong Kong was a great place to start, from the vast spaces of Australia to the extreme density of Hong Kong, what a cultural shock! On the way from the airport to the city center, the skyscrapers were really impressive. They are everywhere and so tall. We even had to wait in line to take the elevator to go up to our hotel!
Hong Kong has some nice museums and art galleries. One exhibition we saw from local up-coming artists was inspired by the lack of space in the city, not surprising really. The major thing to do in Hong Kong is shopping. At the street markets you can buy everything - what about bird's nests or dried lizards? But shopping in style is also one of the things to do. Every luxury brand you can imagine is very well represented here. The other must do is the Hong Kong light show by night. We had a very nice dinner with Pauline, Sylvie's old colleague at l'Oréal, in a great restaurant with a perfect view on neon lit Hong Kong.
It is obvious that Asia is very different from the rest of our trip and we're looking very much forward to discovering more!
On February the 14th it was Chinese New Year. We hope the Year of the Tiger will be a prosperous one for all of you!
See you next time from Vietnam.
Harald and Sylvie
