In Budapest we visited the synagogue and exhibition of all things Jewish - interesting. Also saw photos of the Bpest ghetto from where so many ended up in Auschwitz. Our trip so far keeps pulling us back to the Nazis and the Jews' suffering. Main market was next, building by Eiffel's firm, if not his own design. Lots of paprika on offer, and cigarettes on sale everywhere, at each and every stall it seems.
Then to the Castle Hill just beind our B and B. This photo is from our breakfast terrace. Lots of conference folk staying there - we were the only ones on holiday. Food last night was far too much! Hungary not the place for vegetarians.
Train south to smaller town of Szeged. Got fined for not having correct tickets on metro to station! 27 pounds!!!!! No cakes for several days, then.
Wondeful hotel here, so grand and opulent. But we're on basic rate - toilet down the corridor. We have a shower though. Nice place this, with fewer tpourists around. We hear a bit of English because there must be lots of students here. We're the oldest here, in this internet café.
Travelled through some pretty countryside today, and saw some ramshasckle looking farms and homes. Approaches to little stations seem very dowdy. Lots of corn in fields cost about 20 p per ear.
On to Belgrade tomorrow.
