Journey from Salzburg to Cesne Budejovice was good, again, and we even managed the change of trains with no mishaps. Cesne Bud is home to the original Budva beer, and is fairly large but not too inviting. However, we enjoyed it, as with every place. It was so dead quiet in the evening! Our waiter over dinner (in such a posh hotel we asked if they would accept us dressed as we were) told us 5-6 thousand folk would be at an ice hockey match, as that's their passion!
We were in the hotel with an Austrain oompah band, and the hotel owner asked them if they'd give us a lift in their coach to Cesne Krumlov, a UN heritage site. Fortunately they didn't play or sing in the bus, but they did have thier own supply of beer!! At 10 - 11am!!
Cesne K is really beautiful, but we have seen so many really lovely places that the impact was probably lost on us. However the day was wonderfully sunny and warm and we spent a good hour in the castle gardens reading our books. Bliss!!
Our last train journey was to Prague. Quite a thought, we felt a bit sad. Managed to find our last 1st class seats. Prague has changed, we feel, since we were here 8 or 9 years ago. The number of tourists, even in September, is tremendous, but being able to wander along by ourselves makes a difference. Thw weather was wonderful, hot almost. But this moening, our last day, there has been awful rain. We will be heading for the castle this afternoon, so no photos of that for the blog! We really enjoyed the concert of Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert in a magnificent concert hall last night. We are finding the cost of coffees etc double what we were paying in Ceske Budejovice. That's tourism for you!
This is the last blog. It's been fun for us keeping in contact with people and we hope you've enjoyed our adventures as well as our typos. It's been good sharing it with you all, and we will have a record when we get back home. Hopefully! So many memories, but perhaps what stands out is the effect of war during our trip, from Gdansk and the 2nd WW through Poland and Hungary to the more recent Yugoslavian problems.
We have sampled so many beds, have had varying qualities of accommodation from basic to fine to sumptious, different types of food and after our 5 weeks are both very well.
See you all sometime in the near future! The Macs.
