Halls Creek was the roughest Park we have stayed in so far, there were dogs roaming around everywhere in the Park & around town, no Rangers up here or maybe they are sitting under a tree somewhere? A lot of drunk loud locals as well, I wouldn't recommend walking about after dark!
We were on the road by 7am & headed south out the Tanami Track to Wolfe Creek Crater, the Tanami was quite good, sat on 80-90km all the way.
The Wolfe Creek Road was a different story, 20 km of probably the worst road we have been on so far, badly corrugated & sandy with a few bull dust holes. There were bits & pieces of vehicles all along the road & complete pack backer vans & trailers just left on the side of the road to rust away.
It really was worth the drive though, the crater is huge, 850m wide & was 120m deep but has filled with sand over the years. We walked up the rim & down into the middle of the crater. We kept thinking John Jarrot would appear any minute with a knife in his hand & that spooky laugh (-:
While sitting on the rim of the crater a fella from Bendigo turned up & we got talking, he said "what do u think of our new Prime Minister ? " it was funny because we hadn't heard the news for over a week & we didn't know Abbott got the boot. This was the last place u would expect to get the latest news (-:
