On the go by plenty of time today and grabbed breakfast and some snacks before our trip to the Cameron Highlands. We anticipated the pick-up coming early but were miffed that it arrived before we got a chance to sit and have our free coffee while we waited. Never mind, it wasn't too long a trip but the roads were really windy which made for a bit of roller-coaster ride!lol. It was kinda cool when we arrived which was nice for a change. Had a little walk around and a late lunch (hoped we wouldn't need tea but it is Cam we are talking about!lol) Relaxed at the hostel for a bit and got a tour booked for tomorrow. It was a lot cooler than we are used to and had to fish the fleece out for the first time since Africa!! Looked up the temperature online and it was 20°C, that would be a beautiful sunny day at home, its crazy we are finding it so cold! After dinner we went to the bar to sit at the campfire which was cosy, again it reminded me a lot of Africa! Sleeping bag was looked out for the night and it was much needed!
Mon 24/9
On the go a bit early this morning, headed out to get breakfast at the back o 7 but nowhere opened until 7:30am! We were still back in time for our tour so it worked out ok. We went for a jungle trek first to see the worlds largest flower, Rafflesia (luckily it was in season!) and a waterfall but it was small and too dirty after the rain to go for a swim. The forest was lower down than where we were staying so the temperature was hotter, only about an hour away but a big difference! The trek was good fun because there was plenty of climbing up and down rocky and muddy slopes. Cam said i was a big bairn coz i got in such a mess but at least I was having fun! There are two types of ginger plant which grow in the jungle, one poisonous and one not, I am writing this so the one we got to taste was the non-poisonous. I wouldn't recommend it! It tasted like perfume! After the trek we walked to the aborigine village and got to have a shot of a blow pipe shooting, we both hit the target so not bad for a first attempt! Luckily it didnt last too long as it decided to start to rain! There wasnt much to see in the village as they have had grants to build block houses but there was a really cute monkey which had wrapped itself in a blanket to shelter from the rain, it looked a bit like an old lady sitting there! We found out later it wasn't a pet and that it is a favourite food of the aborigines!lol. Unfortunately the tea plantation was closed but we did stop for some nice views over them (which would have been nicer without the rain). We went to a small butterfly and reptile farm, it was only 5 ringgit so you got what you paid for but the guide did take some scorpions and beetles and things out for a closer look. The trip ended with a stop at a strawberry farm but we see plenty of strawberries at home so not really the highlight of the trip!lol. sat and relaxed at the hostel when we got back as it wasnt weather to do anything, think we sat out (it was under cover) too long coz we got absolutely freezing!! Ended up headin up to bed to curl up in the sleeping bag to warm up, wished I had a hot water bottle! Looked the temperature up again and it said 19°C but I didnt believe it, checked another sight and it said 16°C which sounds more like it, it is much cooler today but last night must have been kinda the same! When we went out for dinner I put 2 pair of sock, leggings, trousers, 2 tops, 3/4 length sleeve shrug, fleece and a scarf on! I was warm but not cosy!!! All i needed was a winter coat, hat and gloves and this is what I would wear when it snows at home!! Cant believe how badly we are feeling the cold, might have to rethink ever coming home, if its this bad here, we will be shivering wrecks in the summer in Orkney never mind the winter!lol. We had planned to stay another day but we have booked a bus to get us out of here and to some more familiar weather! Can not wait!!
