All packed and ready to leave by 11:00 to go in search of LPG for Margo. First we head into Tiverton but a drive around plus enquiries in a fuel station results in nothing, so we head off towards the M5 and A38 as N+G know of a station near Telegraph Hill.
On the way we tune into the rugby, where England triumph over Australia 39-28.
At the garage we top up our LPG as well then head off to a peaceful layby for lunch. To complete the itinerary of travelling in convoy again we follow garage and lunch stops with a visit to a supermarket before driving to our destination beside the canal in Exeter.
It is a warm afternoon so we head off along the canal path for a walk. The hedges are rich with wild flowers and the trees are full of birds singing. Fishermen are hunched in their tents with rods dangling in the water, all quite insular and reluctant to reply to our 'Hellos'.
We pass a small boatyard with an old MTB alongside and continue until we get to the concrete flyover of the M5 which we've driven over so often. From here below the bridge we can see the Retreat Boatyard at Topsham.
Returning to the vans we just avoid a sudden downpour that lasts about twenty minutes, time we spend watching highlights of the Queen's 90th birthday parade.
Rain over, we all set off in the other direction along the canal bank towards Double Locks. On the way we are surprised when a steam train hurries by on the other side [The 'Dartmouth Express' hauled by Bulleid pacific; 34052 Lord Dowling]. Again the towpath is lined with wild flowers and rushes, and we also spot a few rabbits munching away.
At the Double Locks pub we sit beside the lock and have a very pleasant meal; charcuterie platter to share followed by kedgeree. The rabbits are still munching when we return, reaching the vans as dusk falls.
Nick and Grete come in for a night cap as we reflect on the happy few days we've spent together.
